OOC: If you sign up, you may assume that your character is participating in the soccer scrimmages on a weekly basis if he or she so desires. We'll probably only actually have one IC get together in the term, which I will be sure to buzz you all about on the OOC board. BIC:
Brett was not wasting any time this year before getting his soccer scrimmages going. They had managed to have scrimmages fairly regularly last term. They used small orange cones for the goals, since Brett had a set of four, and hats and shirts for the boarders. It was pretty low key, and some of the kids had never played before, but it satisfied Brett's soccer cravings. He also liked being at least nominally in charge of something.
Having spent most of the summer playing soccer with the Sundance kids, it was not a desire to play soccer that drove him to post the scrimmage call in the Pecari Common Room within two hours of arriving at the school. He was anxious to see his peeps!

SOCCER! by Irene Liddowe
You Americans *shakes head sadly* by Elly Eriksson
It wasn't long before that dependable sign was posted on the notice board, Irene noticed as she walked into the Commons. Soccer was one thing that she felt a real challange for. She knew she wasn't the best on the field (obviously, when she was playing with Brett and Echo), but that made her want to compete more and more. She wanted to show them that she could keep up, even if this wasn't her sport. Plus, it kept her in shape for when Quidditch rolled around. Irene was going to need to be the best if she was going to make the team this year. Being a reserve two years running had its merits (ie: getting to practice), but it wasn't The Team, as she had explained before. This year, it was happening.
Irene changed her direction towards the board, reaching into her bag as she went. This was going to be fun. She remembered the games last year with all of the different people. It was fun! No hesitation, Irene signed her name on the list:
Once again, Elly wondered quite how she was going to manage her time this year. There was always school work (she was reluctant to call it homework, seeing as it never saw her 'home' outside of Sonora), which Elly somehow completed, though only in enough detail to maintain a passing grade. On top of that was Quidditch - practises alone were twice a week, and Elly liked to do her own workouts, too, if she could help it. Then with the Fury after midterm, and charms club, and extra flying lessons with Fox, and prank research, Elly often wondered how she had time to fit it all in. Still, that wasn't going to put her off signing up for Brett's soccer scrimmages.
Elly wasn't especially good at football - somehow she seemed to trip over herself far more often when running after a ball. But that didn't really matter - only Brett and Echo were any good in their games anyway - most students just showed up for the fun. Plus Elly had been doing hockey coaching again over the summer, so her fitness levels were as high as they'd ever been; she was determined not to let that drop over the course of the year. Besides, the good Sonoran weather was just too good to not play outdoors.
Rummaging in her bag until she found a writing implement (in this instance, a pencil sharpened down 'til it was only about the length of her thumb), Elly added her name to the sheet.
Elly Eriksson, 4th year

Saul had no specific fondness for the game of soccer by itself - he thought it was an all right game, but nothing special. Then again, Saul didn't really count himself as a sport-y type of person, Quidditch Assistant Captaincy notwithstanding. Like with Quidditch, Saul played soccer because of the team. And because the team already included Brett, Irene, and Elly, and Echo couldn't possibly be far behind, Saul didn't hesitate in adding his name to this list any more than he had to the one the Cravens had put up.
Saul Pierce, Year 5
His handwriting was as abysmal as ever, and he spelled 'year' correctly only by virtue of copying it from Brett's example (and even then, his 'r' hooked down a little too much and could be mistaken for an 'n' if taken out of context).
As long as the scrimmages didn't overlap with Quidditch practice (which Brett was usually pretty good about, most likely because of Irene), Saul wasn't concerned about fitting the practices into his schedule. He spent the absolute minimum amount of time on his schoolwork, so he had a lot of free time during every month but February. (Speaking of which, Saul needed to come up with a better idea for this year's novel. The Shakespeare thing had utterly flopped. Even after just throwing completely random lines together for the last week before the deadline, Saul hadn't come close to the word count goal and the whole second half sounded like it had been written by the Unfab Four while utterly drunk and working at cross purposes to each other.)
He walked away from the scrimmage sign-up muttering under his breath about 'fairy godmothers' and 'fire breathing dragons' or - no! - "Fire breathing fairy godmothers!" Saul said suddenly with a air of triumph and punched a fist into the air. "Yes!"
With Quidditch out of the question, Hannah needed to find a way to use up all of that extra energy. This was the only reason she was even considering joining in on the soccer scrimmages. Though the freckled girl was far from the biggest fan of Muggle sports, she'd take soccer over a total lack of physical activity. Besides, when one of her mother's boyfriends (she never bothered keeping track of their names) had signed her up for the pee-wee league, she hadn't been that bad at it. She'd been one of the forwards, or whatever they were called. The girl had favored the position because it reminded her of Chaser in Quidditch.
Hannah C.-F. - 1st Year
Taking a step back from the list, Hannah admired her work. She'd always felt kind of self-conscious about the length of her surname, and opted to just write her initials so that her name didn't seem that much longer than anyone else's. She didn't know anybody yet; she didn't want the first thing they noticed about her was that she happened to possess a rather long name. Perhaps she could convince one of her cousins to join her. She didn't think that any of them knew very much about soccer, but it would be less weird if she could play with somebody that she knew.
