School, fun as it could be with their mates, being allowed to do magic and playing Quidditch, was not somewhere the Craven twins were often elated about returning to. They were ok with it - they certainly didn't have to be dragged kicking and screaming, but 'keen' was not usually the word. This year was a little different. A baby-free environment seemed like heaven. The twins bounced into the Common Room, relishing the absence both of screaming and of the stench of nappies.
"WOOOHOO!" hollered Ash, taking advantage of there being no one to sternly shush him for it. True, they'd been able to escape to the beach a bit over the summer, and they hadn't had to help out (as if Mariella was going to allow them to touch her darling little offspring) but the extended visit from their sister and all the gushing that had ensued had been torturous enough. Not to mention that the 'M' word had been banned, because Mariella and her husband were Muggles, and he didn't know. The 'Q' word had also been forced out of their vocabulary as a result, except when the twins were on their own together, which had seemed too rare. Mariella and family had left the day before Sorrel and Ash returned to Sonora, and tactics had been discussed all dinner time, all evening and over breakfast that morning. The poster which they now rushed to pin up showed slight signs of having been written on the covered wagon ride, although where their quills had strayed, the twins had been able to repair most of the damage with their wands (except in one instance, where a small, burnt hole evinced a sudden onset of turbulence as Sorrel had been making a correction).
Play for Pecari! the poster announced, in thick black capitals.

Irene returned to the common room to find the glorious Quidditch sign-ups poster on the message board. Thank God! She really needed something to do now. She felt like she was just walking around until Fury! started up again. Irene grinned as big as she could and dashed over to sign her name on the board. She began to read, her smile getting even bigger.

That's all she needed. Irene took out her pen and signed away.

There we go! Awesome awesome awesome! Quidditch was back! Pecari was going to completely own this year. Completely. No offence to Raye and Josh, but Pecari was going to dominate everyone, especially Croatlus. The poster talked about dedication and she definitely had that. Quidditch was going to be her number one. She was going to put her heart and soul into making the playing team this year. The reapperance of her adad over the summer put a strange motivation in her. She was going to do everything in her power to keep herself from becoming him.
Saul's summer had been fantastic. Okay, yes, three months of seeing the inside a minivan for at least a couple of hours every day and sometimes all day was a little much, but he'd been with Neil and Maria for most of the trip (those being his cousins closest in age to him though Neil was two years older and Maria two more beyond that) and they were cool.
When they weren't in the car, they were all over the western United States. Over the summer break, they'd hit California (no biggie, since that's where they lived normally), Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and finally Wyoming where he'd met up with Echo and Friends until it was time to return to Sonora.
He was a bit out of shape from all the enforced confinement while driving, but that did not stop him from immediately putting his name down the moment he spotted the sign-up sheet for Quidditch. Now, more than ever, he had a reason to play: he was pretty sure it impressed both Briony and Pepper.

There were so many awesome and amazing things about Sonora – magic, for starters. Then there were all the fabulous people, the cool lessons, the fascinating labyrinth, the delicious food, and, last but certainly not least, there was Quidditch. Elly loved Quidditch – it was now so much a part of her life that she often found it difficult to believe she had once lived happily not knowing of its existence. Now, a life without Quidditch was rather empty in comparison.
Unfortunately for Elly, the few square yards of concrete slabs and parched grass enclosed at the back of her parents’ house barely counted as a garden, and certainly couldn’t facilitate broom riding (not least because it was on the outskirts of Muggle London). However, over summer Elly had managed to get in a game with Irene and all the others, not to mention having discussed different teams’ strategies at length with Caedence. Things could have been worse, but she was definitely glad to be back at a place where she could fly every day if she wanted to.
One day Elly was hoping to get her own broom. She hadn’t done any pocket money earning over the summer, and as a result her funds were decidedly low. However, she would be able to get a real job the summer after next, and then she could start saving those pennies for real, saving enough to get her a really good broom. Until then, however, one of the school’s Cleansweeps would undoubtedly do just fine.
As soon as Elly saw the Quidditch sign up sheet was up in the commons, she headed directly over to add her name to the list.

Echo came down the to common room and caught Brett, pen in hand, staring at the Quidditch sign-up sheet. Echo winced to see it and looked around to make sure the common room was at least mostly empty.
"You're not," he told Brett, in an offhand sort of way. He glanced at the sheet and leaned against the backside of the sofa.
"Why not?" Brett asked turning and also scoping out the room, "Just because you can't doesn't mean--"
"Dude. Brett," Echo stopped him and checked the room again. Still empty, "Listen. You can't fy. Brooms don't respond to you, and heights freak you out. Quidditch is not your sport. Accept it."
"I know," Brett slumped against the wall with a sigh and started picking at the wood near his pencil tip, "But there isn't anything else. It's the only sport at this school! Sports are all I'm good at. It's not like I can do magic like every other kid here can. I mean, I can write--but I don't get this stuff."
"It would help if you tried," Echo pointed out. "And maybe did your homework once in a while."
"Thanks for the pep talk, mom. I appreciate it."
Brett pealed himself off the wall and retreated from the common room. Echo checked to make sure he wasn't signed up--he wasn't. He did the right thing, right? All he did was talk sense into him ... and dash all his hopes and dreams.
"She'll like you more if you teach her your mad juggling skills," Echo called after him.
"Not helping," he yelled back. The door to the 2nd years boy's dorm slammed closed.

After making sure Pence and Dot were comfortable in the third year girl’s dorm, Meredith sat on her new bed. It was just like the one she had used last year and the year before that, but this one was for third years, which she was now. That made all the difference in the world. Thirteen years old. She could start taking the elective classes. Mere got up and left the girls' dorm as she thought about what she was taking.
She doubted she was much of a seer so she decided against divination. Ancient Runes looked cool so she though she would try it. And definitely Muggle Studies. Maybe she could figure out what made muggles so strange. She often wondered how they got along without magic. Some of their inventions were pretty convenient, but most seemed flat out weird. But if it worked for the muggles than that was just—
The thought was quickly shunted aside when Meredith reached the common room and saw the notice board. The sign up poster for Quidditch was up! Mere ran back to her room to find her quill and ink. She had been able to show her friends her abilities on the Quidditch Pitch over the summer and only wished the Captains Craven would see it too. Mere went to the poster and saw the names of those who had already signed. Irene, Saul, and Elly. Oh good. She wasn’t the last one this time. She dipped her quill and brought it up to the list.
Meredith Lail, third year, beater/chaser
Okay, she still knew both beater spots were filled, but she still didn’t think she should leave beater out. You could never tell what might happen on the Quidditch Pitch...unless you were a seer, which Mere continued to doubt she was and further doubted the captains were so she would be there if something unexpected came up.
Stephen wasn't entirely sure how he felt about school this year. Here he was, first day back - the day before classes even - and what did he have to do? Meetings with professors about whether he would be allowed to continue in the classes he'd nominated. He could have been having fun with his friends, or... well, there was talking with Mia as well. But that would have to wait until the evening, probably. He both hoped he'd be able to find her and yet, at the same time, dreaded it too.
In fact, the only bright and shinning thing about the day - other than the sun outside, which was really just rubbing in his bad luck - was that the Quidditch sign-up sheet was there, just waiting for him to add his name to it.
Pulling a quill from his bag - ok, another good thing, although he didn't mind scrounging in the lease - he signed the paper in a less than hurried scrawl.
Stephen Baxter, Sixth year, Keeper
That done, he looked around hoping that someone would come up that would delay the inevitable. Sadly, and unusually for Pecari, that distraction did not come, and Stephen - which only the mildest hesitation compared the his outright baulking at the idea last term - made his way through the passage, out into the blinding sunlight and then into the school proper.
First stop, the Headmaster's office.
OOC: I'm not going to actually write out the meetings with the professors as they've mostly gone and told me that they'd rather I didn't add to their workload, which is fair enough. Suffice to say, he's going to be in the classes he wanted, but if he doesn't keep his grades up I daresay he'll be out of that particular class.

Lizzie Lavine had been waiting for this day ever since the beginning of term. In fact, before term even started, Lizzie was having dreams about quiddtch. Finally, the day had arrived, and that magical little sheet of paper made it's way up in the Pecari Commons. Upon spying it from the other side of the room, Lizzie rushed over, quill out and all, and signed up at the bottom of the ever-growing list.

Caedence sat in a chair in the common room staring at the sign up sheet. Her hair, thankfully in a braid once more, was draped over one shoulder. She twisted it around her finger as she battled her new found conscious.
One the one hand, she wanted the spot back more than anything in the world. She wanted to redeem herself. She wanted to show the world she wasn’t stupid. She knew she could do it. She had been dedicated to the team since year one. She hoped that she could some day be the team captain when the twins graduated.
On the other, signing up would diminish Irene’s chances at getting a full team spot. Irene deserved it. Even as a reserve she had as much heart as anyone else on the team. Stupid Elly morphing her brain into a nice person’s mind! Caedence growled lowly to herself. If she didn’t have a conscience…
She finally stood up, finding a quill that someone left lying around next to an ink well, and loaded the quill. She hovered over the paper. If she signed up now, there was probably no way to go back.
She scribbled on the paper Caedence Redoak, third year, chaser, willing to be a reserve There. She did it. If the Cravens didn’t want her on the team again this year, there was an out for them. She left the quill where she found it and went out to look for Elly.\n
