A little some'in some'in for Miss Eriksson by Cissy Tarwater

Cissy had gotten it in that morning, and finally it was nighttime. She could use it. Cissy grinned as she looked at the little baggie. Caution, it said, do not open until nescessary. Oh, Cissy wasn't stupid. She wasn't one to do that. But someone's bed was about to be filled with this powder.

Cissy hugged her father's special itching powder. She never knew how to make it, but whenever she asked, her father would make up a batch for her. A powder that made a person itch for twenty-four hours, why it was perfect.

Well, no, her jar of live bugs would be better, but he mother hadn't sent that yet. But Cissy'd father was not as suspicious as their mother. She doubted he even bothered to think of why she may need the powder. Thinking Cissy the perfect angel in the family. And even if he did wonder what it was for, she would say she was teaching some Mudblood a lesson in respect. Cissy'd father was okay with that.

And it wasn't technically a lie.

Cissy slid out of her room quitly, not wanting to wake up her other roommates. The puffskein and French girls akready seemed suspicious of her, and she didn't want to wake them. As Cissy finally got out of her room, she walked the halls before she finally found the second year girls' dorms.

Second year, Red was such. Cissy grinned, she'd teach that girl to be so stuck up. Sure it wasn't as bad as the bugs, but it sure was quieter. As she finally got in, Cissy looked at the sleeping girls before finally picking Red out. Very quietly, Cissy crawled to the girl's bed and gently opened the bag. It made a small crinkling noise, but not enough for anyone to hear. Cissy looked down at the white powder shining in the darkness.

It would dissolve into human skin, and become unnoticable. Only heavy searching would locate the fact that this certain powder was used. Otherwise, it just seemed like extremely annoying itching for those twenty-four hours. Cissy wasn't even sure if it had an antidote, she hoped not. Softly she pours the powder all along the figure of Red's right side and blew it to go in contact with her skin.

It would spread in thirty minutes, and the itching would start five after that. Cissy didn't bother to stay in that dorm, she would see Red when they woke up in the morning. And the itch would still be there. So Cissy crawled out of the commons and ran her way back to hers.

Hopefully now Miss Red would think twice before messing with Sierra Tarwater.\n\n

What have I done to deserve this? [tag Caedence] by Elly Eriksson

Elly had been enjoying a marvellous dream: she had been in the British Natural History museum, and suddenly there was a tyrannosaurus rex in there, too, and everyone had been running crazily to try and escape. Elly had lots of dreams involving dinosaurs. She didn’t know why, but she enjoyed them, anyway. They were always a little bit scary (running from a t-rex wasn’t a barrel of laughs) but fun, too, and Elly always woke up with a sense of achievement having out-run a dinosaur during the night.

She did wake up, and spent a few seconds contemplating the dream. She scratched her shoulder and pulled the blankets up higher. Then something occurred to her – it was still dark, and quiet. It wasn’t morning yet! Elly rubbed an itch on her waist and turned to see the time. Her watch told her it was only five thirty in the morning. Inwardly groaning, Elly slumped back into her pillows, cursing whatever had woken her up this early. She snuggled back under the duvet hoping to fall back to sleep, but she couldn’t get comfortable. First her pyjama label was tickling the back of her neck and making it itch, then she had a funny tickle on her elbow that she couldn’t get rid of.

After a few minutes of tossing and turning, Elly sat up, frustrated. She used one hand to rub her tired eyes, while the other was engaged kneading her lower back, which felt oddly uncomfortable. Actually, her whole back felt all tingly. Elly tried scratching it, but the more she scratched, the more it seemed to itch. She was beginning to get a little irritated. She was tired; she could have had a couple more hours sleep if her back wasn’t itching. Slipping her hand up her pyjama shirt, Elly felt small bumps, like goose pimples on the areas she had been scratching. Uh-oh, that wasn’t normal. Elly went over to the mirror and lifted her shirt to have a look, but she couldn’t twist her head round enough to see properly, plus it was too dark to tell anyway. Elly bit her lip. Her entire back and her right arm were tingling unpleasantly. She knew the medic wouldn’t be awake at this time, and anyway, it might go away in a few minutes.

Just then, one of Elly’s dorm-mates shifted in her sleep. “Caedence?” Elly whispered. “Is that you? Are you awake?” She was loud enough that if Caedence was awake she would hear, but quiet enough not to wake her up if she wasn’t. Elly tiptoed over to Caedence’s bed. “Caedence, are you awake?” Elly asked again, a little louder this time, because she really wanted her friend to be awake – she was starting to feel a bit panicky.

Nothing *pats head* you're a good girl! by Caedence

Caedence had another wierd dream. She was back at home, fighting with the local street kids. All of the sudden, Professor Connell showed up. She frowned at Caedence, and Caedence could swear she saw dissapointment etched on every inch of her face. She wanted to cry out, to apologize, to do anything, but her mouth wouldn't work.

She awoke, barely. In a sortof asleep-yet-awake stupor. She shifted, wanting to get to sleep without strange dreams, but someone in the darkness was fidgeting. Alot. It was getting rather annoying and she was about to tell whoever it was to go back to bed when they spoke. “Caedence? Is that you? Are you awake?” She almost graoned. Now it was time to talk. It was like, what, five in the morning? Ugh, let her catch some more sleep! Then the person came up to her bed. “Caedence, are you awake?” This time, she sounded rather panicked. Caedence recognized the voice as Elly's. Suddenly, a mix of panic and concern washed over Caedence. First, to try and wake Caedence up was a brave and desparate mood. Second, Elly wasn't the type to disturb others when they needed sleep.

"Yeah'm up. Wha's it Elly?" she asked her voice slurred slightly with sleepiness, "Wassa fuss all about?" \n\n

Well that's what I thought *puzzled* by Elly

In a voice fuzzy with sleep, Caedence affirmed she was awake, albeit only barely. In her relief, Elly could have hugged her – she didn’t, of course, she wouldn’t fancy hugging Caedence in a state of full awareness, let alone when she was half asleep. Elly took it as a mark of their friendship when instead of telling her where to go, Caedence asked what was up.

“Sorry,” Elly said, covering herself just in case she had woken Caedence up, “but I need your help with something.” She kept her voice just above a whisper to avoid waking anybody else. “I’ve woken up and my back’s all really itchy. I think I might have a rash but I can’t see,” Elly said. It didn’t really sound important enough to wake Caedence up for, though, so she added, “I’ve not had anything like this before and I’m… concerned.”

Elly pleaded with Caedence with her eyes, inwardly hoping Caedence wouldn’t really guess how worried Elly was about the itching, because it if did turn out to be nothing it would make Elly look a bit foolish. Still, she wasn’t so proud that she wouldn’t ask for help when she needed it.

HAck, you have to be a good girl to be Caede's friend! by Caedence

Caedence rubbed the last bits of sleep out of her eyes. She then stifled a yawn as Elly explained the situation. Oh, you have got to be kidding me! A rash? An itchy back? Come on, what kind of a reason was that to wake Caedence up. Her concern and panic instantly left Caedence. What a stupid reason to wake her up! She softened slightly at the pleading look. Okay, well maybe Caedence could humor her friend.

"Itchy like how? Like a tag bothering you? Like poison ivy? Someone could have like put something in your bed. Poison oak or ivy oil can be used as a really nasty prank. Is it like that? Or your shirt just irritaed your back?" She sighed, knowing that questions didn't get the job done, "You know what, show me your back, I'll look at it the best I can. Maybe we might need to wake the medic, if it looks pretty bad. If not, a cool washcloth should make the itch go away. It depends on the reason for the itch."\n\n

Caedence is okay, she's just more honest than most. by Elly

Elly was half expecting Caedence to scoff and tell Elly to stop being ridiculous, but to her credit, she put her energy into trying to help her friend. Elly felt that maybe she had underestimated Caedence in some ways. She knew she was protective of Elly when other people confronted her, but she’d never really shown direct concern before. Elly was increasingly glad this year that she had bothered to make the effort with Caedence, as otherwise she would have missed out on having such an exceptional friend.

“Itchy like how?” Caedence asked. “Like a tag bothering you?”

Elly blinked. She had thought it was the label in her pyjamas that had tickled her neck, but now she realised she didn’t even have a neck label in this shirt. Whatever was all over her back was up on her neck, too.

“Like poison ivy?.. Poison oak or ivy oil can be used as a really nasty prank.” Caedence continued.

Again, Elly blinked. She’d never touched poison ivy, how was she supposed to know what that felt like? And who would do such a horrible prank like that, anyway? As far as Elly was concerned, pranks were supposed to be funny, not vindictive. And if someone had put it in her bed, which never would have occurred to Elly, who would do such a thing? And why? And how?

“Or your shirt just irritated your back?”

Elly frowned. “I’ve worn this shirt loads before,” she said. “The shirt is fine.”

“You know what, show me your back,” Caedence said.

Desperately resisting the urge to scratch, lest she aggravate her skin further, Elly turned so her back was to Caedence, which in itself was a little disconcerting, and lifted up her pyjama shirt so most of her back was visible. “It itches like crazy,” Elly said. “All up my back and on my neck, and on my right arm, too,” she whined, and peered at her arm, which was also looking a bit pink. “When I scratch it hurts a bit, but it tickles so much I just want to scratch it!” Elly felt hopeless. She bit her lower lip to stop herself from panicking. Whatever this was, it would go away. No need to panic.

Inviting myself into the conversation by Danae Dupree

Even though her bed was further away from the other two, the aggravating tones didn't fail to reach her ears. With a slight unladylike grunt, she tossed and pulled the pillow over her head. She had been having a wonderful dream and wanted to get back to it. Unfortunately, the voices wouldn't be ignored. Groaning, she sat up in the bed ready to glare at the other that two. Her dark hair falling into her eyes, she pushed it back with her hand. Turning to look in their direction, she received quite a shock to see Elly lifting her shirt up.

Recovering slightly, because she reasoned that they probably weren't a couple. Besides, not ever seeing them doing anything, like holding hands or kissing, to suggest they were, hadn't she seen Elly hanging around Echo alot? Not to mention, hadn't she heard something about being itchy?

Unable to contain herself, Danae blurted out, "What in the world are you two doing?"\n\n

o.o....disturbing thought... by Caedence

Caedence examined Elly's back. In teh dim light, she could make out tiny bumps here and there. The skin also appeared pink. She hovered one hand over the skin and it felt a little hot too. Not much, just warm. Almost like a poison ivy rash. "Looks like poison ivy or oak, at least to me," She said.

"What in the world are you two doing?" A voice met Caedence's ears and she jumped about a mile into the air. "Shut up!" She hissed, "Don't wake Meredeth!"

She gave an irritated sigh and then said, "Miss Erickson seems to be at the recieving end of a cruel joke. Someone put some sort of itch powder or oil or something in her bed. She was showing me her back so I could examine it and tell her if it looked serious" she turned away from Danae and said to Elly, "Which, by the way Elly, it just looks a little bad. We should get a cold washcloth and set it on your back. An hour or a day, I can't tell, but it looks like it will go away soon."

She glared suspiciously at Danae, "Which brings me to ask," she said in a deadly hiss, "Who do you know that doesn't like you Elly? Anyone? That Paul kid maybe? But he isn't in this house is he? Anyone at all?"\n\n

"Don't wake Meredith," Danae rolled her eyes, as she mimicked Caedence.

She really couldn't stand the girl. All she did was threaten people and she didn't even do it creatively. She still couldn't believe that she was being nurturing at all, but she guessed that even the lowliest creatures had some form of it.

Danae raised an eyebrow when Caedence said her next words and questioned, "Miss Erikkson? What are you like some old maid? We share a room. It's hardly the time to be formal, Caedence."

She snickered slightly, as she crawled out of her warm bed to head for the restroom. She stopped only when Caedence attempted to scare her. Instead, she changed direction and stalked over to where Caedence and Elly were, glad that for once she had left her wand on her bedside stand. Otherwise, she would be tempted to use it right now.

Making sure she was eye level with Caedence, she stated in an even tone, "I don't suggest using a threatening tone with me, Caedence..."

Leaving it at that, she straightened back up and with a wave of her hand, and said in a louder, fakely sweet tone, hoping now to wake Meredith just to get a rise from Caedence, "Why I don't know anyone at all who could possibly hate Elly."\n\n

I feel like a babysitter. by Elly

Better and better. Simply superb. Caedence seemed to think that someone really had put something nasty in Elly’s bed, and there was something about Caedence’s assertiveness that led Elly to believe she’d had experience with itching powders before. In Elly’s last school, the girls had always joked about putting itching powder in the boys’ PE kits, but they’d never actually done it. Elly still couldn’t believe that anyone would want to do this to her, or that they would carry out such a horrid scheme, but what other explanation was there? She hadn’t even eaten anything unusual, or even been out in the gardens that day, so it can’t have been a plant or anything.

Then, just as Elly was feeling things couldn’t get worse, Danae startled Elly by saying, “What in the world are you two doing?”

Hurriedly pulling her shirt back down, Elly turned to look at the only roommate she didn’t consider a best friend. Elly hadn’t really spoken to Danae much – they shared a room so a little conversation had been unavoidable, but Danae seemed to want to keep herself to herself. Elly didn’t dislike her, but she thought that Danae and Caedence didn’t get on very well. Fighting fire with fire and all that.

Elly felt she should apologise for disturbing Danae, but then Caedence told Danae to shut up in case they woke Meredith, which was a definite affirmation that Caedence preferred Mere to Danae, at any rate. Elly did too, but she was still sorry to have disturbed nearly everyone just because of an itchy back.

After briefly explaining to Danae why they were awake, Caedence turned her attention back to Elly, who was inordinately pleased that the harsh tone Caedence had adopted when talking to Danae almost disappeared when talking to her. “We should get a cold washcloth and set it on your back,” Caedence said.

Elly nodded and tried not to stare to much at her roommates, who seemed to be seizing each other up. She would break up a fight between them if she had to, but it wasn’t really on her to do list, and she’d rather avoid confrontation if she could help it.

Caedence started asking who could have put the stuff in Elly’s bed. Elly thought she was generally well liked at Sonora; she wasn’t friends with everyone by any means, but she had very few people she would call enemies. It occurred to her that if whoever it was had put the stuff in the bed when nobody else was in the room, they might have put it in Elly’s bed by mistake. She thought about saying this, but didn’t want to suggest that maybe she was better liked than either of the other two – that didn’t seem like a smart move, especially since they were now hissing and glaring at each other, making threats. What had she missed?

“I don’t suggest using a threatening tone with me, Caedence,” Danae said. Wildly wishing she had been paying more attention, Elly opened her mouth and prepared to stand between them, when Danae seemed to start backing off again. “Why I don’t know anyone at all who could possibly hate Elly,” she said. Elly groaned at the volume of her voice, knowing that unless Meredith was in a very deep sleep that Danae would have disturbed her, and wondered if that she was being sarcastic, or if Danae was just trying to irritate Caedence. Either way, it seemed to be working, and Elly was keeping a wary eye on Caedence just in case she decided to launch herself into a fight, though she did seem to be a lot calmer these days. Elly thought she’d better say something before the other two got time to work up some real anger.

“If it was someone who put something in my bed, then the only person I can think of who would do that is that first year, something Tarwater. You know, Paul’s sister. I don’t think Morgaine would do it, she’s not had a problem with me since last year, and it has to be a girl ’cause of what Saul said about the corridor ride.” Elly scratched her arm and, realising she was doing it, stopped and clasped her hands in front of herself. She was still keeping her voice down just in case Mere was still asleep. She wanted to go take a cold shower to help with the itching, and maybe wash off whatever it was that was making her itch, but she didn’t want to leave Caedence and Danae together unoccupied – they might wake the whole of Pecari.

Caedence opened her mouth to retort to Danae's counter threat when Elly started to talk again. "Tarwater...I will find out who that girl is..."she growled under her breath. She nodded once to Elly then turned to Danae. Her fists were clenched so tight that even in the darkness the knuckles stood out white.

"Don't you dare threaten me, girl. Don't you even think about messing with my friend either. And don'tyou even dare wake up Meredith or you will be so sorry you even came to this school. I am not afraid of you. I am not afraid of this Tarwater kid, I wasn't afraid of Morgaine or that stupid first year kid, and I am not afraid to be expelled. Got me Danae?" She growled. HEr eyes blazed over with the familiar anger of last year. "Do not try anything on me or my friend. Ever. Forget your stupid sweet kid act. Got me?" she hissed. STanding up abruptly, before Danae could speak, she said in a milder happier tone, "Remember, a cold washcloth will help you Elly." and walked out of their dorm.\n\n

Knock knock [tag: Professor Connell] by Elly

This really wasn’t the way Elly had expected to spend the early hours of the morning. In all honesty, she had been planning on sleeping in until she almost missed breakfast, like she did every other day. Being awake and itching whilst attempting to calm her warring roommates and contemplating what she had done to deserve it all had not been on Elly’s agenda.

She didn’t realise it, but she had been holding her breath until Caedence left the room; she half expected Danae and Caedence to start attacking each other, claws and teeth bared. The attack remained verbal, thankfully, and Elly was pleased that Caedence had decided to leave – it made things with Danae easier at any rate.

“Sorry for disturbing you,” Elly said to Danae. “I’m just going to have a shower then I’ll be out of your way.” She smiled weakly. “See you later,” Elly said, grabbing her towel and heading for the showers, feeling miserable.

Elly let the cold water run down her back. It made her shiver but the cool against her skin - now red and sort of lumpy – was a great relief. After washing her back, neck and arms as much as she could stand under the ice-cold water, Elly hurriedly dried herself and returned to the dormitory. She selected clean clothes, just in case they were wrong about the itching powder being in her bed, pulling on her brown joggers and a loose grey sweater. She collected her wand from the dresser by her bed and, without bothering with socks and shoes, followed Caedence’s example and left the sleeping quarters.

It was after six by now, and Elly thought that since it was starting to get light outside then calling on her Head of House was probably acceptable this early. She could go to the medic but students weren’t technically supposed to be in the corridors at this time, and the medic would want to be told what had caused the irritation, but Elly didn’t know. Besides, Professor Connell was far more approachable, and since Elly had excelled in her potions classes last year, she felt perhaps she’d have more sympathy from Connell than any other teacher in the school anyway. And if someone – Sierra! That was her name! – had done this intentionally then the Head of House would have to be involved anyway.

Elly padded barefoot across the common room and made her way to Professor Connell’s office. She’d never been before, and she was feeling just a little nervous. Elly raised her hand and knocked on the office door. She was still cold from the shower and hugged her grey sweater close around her as she waited for an answer.

Who's there? by Professor Connell

OOC: I’m sorry this took me so long. RL was ridiculously crazy this past week.

Marian Connell had long ago learned that anyone knocking on her office doorway just after, she glanced tiredly at the situated by her bed, six o'clock AM rarely posed good tidings, if only because most people bearing good news waited until they would be sure of the recipients alertness before relating it. Either that, or most people had the good sense not to wake up someone at such an ungodly hour without knowing whether or not the person being woken up would hurt them or not.

When Marian had first heard the sound of someone at her office door, she’d been almost soundly asleep, and probably would have stayed that way if it hadn’t been for the various charms she cast to make sure she was always alerted when someone needed her. Cursing them, the clock, and whatever the problem was, she called out “I’ll be with you in a moment,” to whomever it was waiting, hastily pulled on some robes, dragged a brush through her blonde curls to try and maintain some semblance of order, and hurried into her office to open the door.

She was rather surprised to see Elly Eriksson standing there. From what Marian had seen of the second year, she wasn’t the sort one would expect to be having a problem at the crack of dawn (once Marian had gotten a look at the girl, she’d concluded that this really did have to be some sort of serious problem. Forgoing shoes and socks was not something normal people did, particularly in Pecari, where there was always the chance someone would have left something distasteful out). “Ah, good morning, Miss Eriksson. Is there some sort of problem?” She asked, hiding any lingering irritation at being forced up earlier than normal. “Please, come in and have a seat.”

Me! Are you disappointed? by Elly

OOC: I feel your pain.

BIC:

When Professor Connell answered the door Elly was insurmountably pleased she didn’t seem to be annoyed at being disturbed so early in the morning. Not that it was a habit Elly expected to develop, but it was nice to know that one’s Head of House wouldn’t curse a student for calling on them before breakfast. Not immediately, anyway.

Professor Connell asked if there was some sort of problem. Elly nodded before following her Head of House into her office and taking the offered seat. It was the first time Elly had been into the room, and she couldn’t help but look around a bit, although she resolved to assuage her curiosity with a quick glance, and maintain her focus on her reason for being there in the first place.

“Sorry for calling so early,” Elly said. She thought it best to get the apology out of the way because she was sincerely sorry for calling so early, but considering her options she thought she had made the right decision. Nevertheless she considered it best that she get straight to the point. “I have this itchy rash,” she said, pulling up the left sleeve of her sweater and displaying her reddened arm for her teacher to see. “It’s all up my back, too. It wasn’t there last night and it woke me up this morning. It might be nothing, but Ca – one of my roommates said it looks like a reaction to itching powder, so I thought I’d better get it looked at,” she said, hoping but not really believing that the professor missed her reference to her friend; Caedence really didn’t need to be involved in any more troubles.

That you didn't play along with my joke? Slightly... by Professor Connell

OOC: I am alive, I swear! BIC:

It took Marian a moment to comprehend precisely what Elly's problem was, a fact that she could blame on it being so early in the morning, far earlier than she could ever remember being needed to aid a student before. So, when Elly first rolled up her sleeve, Marian's didn't do anything other than give the second year a slightly quizzical look. Then, the content of her student's explanation sunk in, and, feeling more than a little embarrassed, she glanced at the exposed limb.

"Well, you do have a rather nasty rash," she agreed, looking up at the girl's face once she'd gotten a good enough look at the reddened skin. "If you want, we could go see Medic Wolfe now about it, although I'm fairly certain that I have some extra anti-inflammatory/itching potion in the next room, which is likely all that he'd give you." Besides, although she couldn't say this to the student, Marian really didn't want to bother a colleague so early in the morning, particularly one who seemed to have so serious a disposition as the medic.

"Still, serious though the rash may be, it's virtually impossible to tell whether it's caused by naturally or unnaturally," Marian continued, though, given the house this was, the latter was more likely than not. "I mean, the rash could just as easily come from touching some plant in the gardens than from an itching powder. So your roommate could have just been paranoid." She ignored the unpracticed cover-up of saying Caedance's name. It wasn't really important, and, if the girl was making friends, and staying out of trouble, then Marian wasn't concerned about her. "Is there some reason you might have to suspect a prank?" \n\n

Oh, sorry. by Elly

“Well you do have a rather nasty rash,” Professor Connell said, having looked at Elly’s arm. Elly nodded and pulled her sleeve back down to cover the reddened skin. Connell said Elly could either go to see the Medic, or there was some potion she could use to help stop the itching. Elly preferred the potion idea – she didn’t want to disturb any more people this morning – three was more than enough. Plus she got the impression from her few sightings of him that the medic wouldn’t be so sympathetic as Connell.

Elly listened as her Head of House talked about possible causes of the rash. Connell seemed to think that Caedence was paranoid about the itching powder, as Elly had thought, too. Still, Elly couldn’t explain how else the itching had started. “Is there some reason you might have to suspect a prank?” Professor Connell asked.

“No,” Elly replied. She didn’t bother to say that she got on well with most people, because it sounded big-headed coming from her, and she didn’t have any reason to think she had been pranked except for Caedence’s opinions. “It’s just that I’ve not done anything different – I’ve not eaten anything unusual or worn any new clothes, I’ve not even been into the gardens for a couple of days so I don’t think it was a plant ’cause I was fine before bed last night. I just can’t think of anything that might have brought it on – I don’t have any allergies except Penicillin, and I definitely haven’t had any of that.” Elly thought she had better stop talking at this point in case her Head of House wanted to say anything. Her back was itching like crazy and her eyes were starting to water from the effort of not scratching. This was so unfair!
