Storytelling in the Second Year Boys Room
by Saul Pierce
"... down the hill in a blaze of glorious banners waving madly in the wind! The battle cry was thunderous and Sir Echo knew that this day would be forever known in history." Saul paused in his recitation to looked down at the quick quotes quill recording his story for the novelling club.
The words on the page weren't exactly what he'd been saying, which had been kind of confusing at first and had led to a few plot inconsistancies, but he had figured out a system. Every few sentences, he just needed to stop, check what the quill recorded, modify the version in his head as neccessary, then continue on.
Hmm, according the account on the page, Sir Echo had already engaged in glorious combat with a three headed dragon (where the dragon had come from, Saul had no idea). Alrighty then. He could work with it, though.
"The dragon swooped one of its heads down, opening its maw wide and trying to engulf Echo's head for his dinner feast. The army shouted warning and arrows rained down upon them, threatening Sir Echo nearly as badly as the dragon."
Oh, well, a rain of fire, huh? That was exciting. And apparently the ground had opened up and swallowed the army.
"Furious at the loss of his men, Sir Echo ignored the boiling heat of the flames and fought the dragon, swiping his sword at the nearest of the heads. He screamed in triumph as the sword cut through leaving only two heads left to kill."
Oh, cripes, now Elly was at the battle scene? Though it was definitely cool that she'd been the one to swipe off the one head while Echo shouted in hopeless dismay, his sword trapped against a rock outcropping.\n\n
