Mia slowly followed Silk, who couldn’t be happier for the landing, off of the wagon. Silk ran ahead leaving a trail toward the school. She was almost invisible against the snow that covered the ground. No doubt Silk went to take food from Cascade Hall or even the kitchen if there was one to find. Silk was great at finding things, especially food related things. Mia didn’t have an appetite so she let Silk go and made her way to her common room.
Mia trudged through the snow in a daze towards the Labyrinth Gardens. She told the password to the suit of armor and wished it a belated Merry Christmas with as much of a smile as she could muster. The magic suit of armor lifted a creaky metal arm in response and opened the hedge for her. It was pretty nice for a hollow metal suit. She got a wave out of it one time and another time she could almost swear it smiled.
Mia heavily dropped her suitcase by one of the couches and fell back onto it, wishing she remembered the spell for lifting things. The room was empty for the time being. The students were probably in Cascade Hall eating, but Mia had no appetite at all. Not since Christmas Eve. She knew everything was going to be different now. Her house would feel different, her mother would act different and things would be weird for a while. She wouldn’t have as much time to get used to it as her brothers would since they were at home more than her.
Mia almost didn’t want to leave her mother at home. She had been acting strangely soon after Noah left save for that night when she seemed to still have her wits with her. She rarely left her room, so Mia and her brothers (but mostly Mia) cooked what they knew how to cook which was eggs and toast for breakfast and hot dogs or spaghetti for dinner. Between those meals were sandwiches. New Years Eve didn’t even get Lyn out of her room. If anything she seemed even more depressed that night. Mia stayed home from the party her friends were having and watched the ball drop on TV with her mother in her dark bedroom. She managed to get her mom to crack a smile with one of Jon’s jokes. She made sure to thank him for that.
Even her friends acted differently around her. She and her friends gathered at Megan’s house the day after New Years and of course Mia told them what happened, though keeping an almost indifferent look when talking. She couldn’t shake the mask that had formed on her face. It had a whole new reason to be there. Now she had to be strong for her mother. Her friends kept glancing at her carefully and/or giving sympathetic looks until she told them to knock it off. Well it was closer to yelling, but they understood.
Mia looked at the silver charm bracelet she got for Christmas from her mother. The charms she received included a fairy, a magic wand as non magic people perceived them with the star on top, Mia’s birthstone and two word charms. One said Angel while the other, unfortunately enough, said Princess. Mia thought it wise to leave that one off the bracelet and in the box instead which was safely tucked away in her suitcase. Mia played with the charms on the bracelet as her mind went a mile a minute, milling over everything that had happened over break and it completely skipped over the sound of someone else entering the common room. \n\n
Adam had climbed out of the carriage with his usual exuberance and half ran, half walked his way through the snow until he met up with the statue blocking his enterence into the commonroom.
He had forgotten the passward...again.
"Dragon, no no, of course not...Quidditch, now why would it be that..." He continued on like this until the cold started seeping into his cloak and his teeth began to chatter. "UGH! Come on! You know me! I've come in and out of this commonroom for all of last semester, why don't you know me yet!" Adam asked, frustrated by the lack of response the Suit of Arms gave him. And then, he remembered, as simple as that. "MANDRAKES!" Adam cried out in triumph as the suit of arms moved and the commonroom entrance was revealed to him.
He entered the common room with his trunk dragging behind him. He turned to pull the trunk with both hands when his leg bashed into something and he tumbled backwards, the trunk falling heavily to the floor. "OUCH!" He cried out when he landed before he burst into a fit of laughter. He looked around to see what had caused his fall. Luggage. He noticed the girl and addressed himself to her, "Oyi! You're luggage has quite the sense of humor."\n\n
I don't think lovely is the word to use here.

As common as a loud bang was in the Pecari Common Room, it still had the ability to break one's train of thought. That was actually something of a relief for Mia. Mia’s first thought was to look for Stephen or one of the Cravens using the “corridor ride.” That could cause many loud bangs in the common room. Then she noticed the laughing boy on the ground in front of the couch she was sitting on and the two pieces of luggage on their sides. When the boy spoke she didn’t quite know what to make of it. Pecari sure managed to get some strange ones.
“Sorry about that, you alright?” Mia asked with a half smile, standing and offering her hand to help him up. The charm bracelet gave a muffled jingle as she outstretched her right arm still covered by her winter coat. She didn’t think to take it off when she got into the common room. “I’m Mia, by the way.” She added as an after thought.
Mia pegged the boy as a first year. He looked a little familiar, but she couldn’t put a name to the face. That was never one of her strong points. She did know that she was actually glad for his interruption. She didn’t like where her thoughts were headed or where they had already been.\n\n

Adam took the girl's hand and stood himself upright again. He padded himself down with a nod of approval. Nothing seemed broken and he still had all his limbs. A successful fall in his opinion. "No harm done. Besides, falling on my backside is never such a terrible thing so long as one can laugh at it." Adam said, not thinking that his words probably made no sense to the girl in front of him.
"I'm Adam Whitney. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mia." Adam said with an extravagent bow. He really was in a pleasant mood. He was back at Sonora after all, which meant, magic. He could use his wand without worry of getting into trouble. Well, for the most part.
Adam picked up his trunk and set it upright on the floor and gave it a look over. No scratches, no dents, no nothing. Yes, he had a strong sturdy trunk. A good trunk. Adam smiled widely and looked back over at Mia, "By the way, you made music with your hand."\n\n
OOC: No problem. It happens to the best of us. ^_^
BIC: Once the boy was up off the ground and clearly not moaning from injury, Mia stood her own suitcase up against the couch so no one else would trip. She looked at him as she took her coat off and he spoke. She probably had a confused look for a moment before the statement made some sense and she smiled. She laughed when he gave a fancy bow. The encounter was really lifting her mood.
"A pleasure to meet you too Adam." she responded with a dainty curtsey of her own, crossing her legs and holding the ends of an invisible skirt. It looked just a bit strange in her jeans.
She sat back down on the couch in front of her coat while Adam seemed to be looking over his suitcase. It didn’t matter to her much, but it only just dawned on her that he was speaking to her without cringing at the fact that she was a girl. Mia had to stop a moment again to register what Adam said about making music with her hand. Then she remembered the jingle of her bracelet.
“Oh, you mean my bracelet?” she held up her right arm where the silver charm bracelet was now clearly visible and unmuffled by the thick coat she was wearing before. “I got it as a Christmas present. One of the few I liked this year.” Mia grinned with a shrug.
She had to admit she liked her new knee high boots even though they were from her dad. They were beige and suede and really comfortable. They had a tie up lace all the up the front. She got some money and cards from most of her relatives. Her Secret Santa present from Megan was the first few books in a book series that she had recommended to Mia. That was in Mia’s suitcase too. When she got some free time, she planned to start reading them.
“Did you get any good presents for Christmas?”\n\n
