Like flatmates but not? [Tag First Year Teppenpaw Boys]

If nothing else was true about Sonora, the food was great. Hana had complained that there weren't enough things from home, but Freddie could hardly have said that with a more positive tone. Almost nothing was like anything he'd had before, and some of it was outright disgusting! It was great! He'd seen some foods that he wouldn't have known were edible if he hadn't seen another student eating them, and he made a point of trying everything. Now, though, his stomach unused to such manner of feasting, he was feeling more than a little ill.
Their Head of House seemed nice, which was all well and good, but did they have to talk so much? He did his best to pay attention, not wanting the man to think he didn't care what he had to say. It wasn't that he didn't - he found most of this all very interesting - it was just that he'd gone over it in both German and English with Hana already and wanted more than anything to curl up in his bed and sleep for a month. Or at least until breakfast.
When all was said and done, Freddie made his way to his shared room with some sense of finality. Sonora was real - as it must have been, of course - but now it was real for him. This wasn't just the place his big sister went off to, but a place where he belonged as well. It was a beautiful thing in its own way. Of course, then there was the fact that he did indeed share a room.
He'd shared a room with his sister until only very recently and didn't mind the company, but he'd never shared a room with a boy before. Johana Leonie had told him enough times how gross he was that he was pretty sure it must be all boys who were gross, and he sincerely hoped that wasn't the case. He was prone to leaving his own socks on the floor, but somebody else's socks? That just wouldn't do. At least he'd learn quick charms for cleaning up pretty fast. His father was good at those sorts of things and he would love to learn the trade secrets. Those would be much more helpful than all the healing and salve-making.
When Freddie and his roommate were finally in their room together, alone together, Freddie made the first move in breaking the silence. He extended a hand to his new best friend for the next seven years and smiled broadly. His eyes were light, his hair was lighter, and freckles showed up brightly on pale skin to had seen a summer outdoors. He looked every bit as eleven years old as he was.
"I'm Freddie," he said, preferring to keep it simple when post-dinner drowsiness would make English harder for him. "We are-- Ah. We will live together!" His German accent was pronounced, but at least he got most of the words out. He grinned at his roommate, proud of the accomplishment. "What are named you?"
