Phoebe was tired. She had just flown all the way to Sonora from Hogwarts. She loved her masters, she really did. The one had the softest hair, the other the perfect sized shoulder to perch on, and the both treated her very kindly. She just wished that the one with the soft hair wasn't so insistent on sending something halfway around the world. When she reached her destination, she dropped the letter off on the bed and hopped back to the window. No one was around and though she was tired, she was fueled with the thought of returning home to her favorite perch and being treated with the loving pats she always received after delivering a letter to a particularly far off destination.
She hooted once and then took off, stretching her long tan and grey speckled wings and took off, spotting a nice looking mouse in the surrounding areas of the school--if she was quick enough, she could swoop down and have a good snack before continuing her journey home. The letter, which was written on cream colored parchment and stamped closed with a bronze wax seal that had an intricate "R" for Rosenthal pressed in it, lay on the 6th year Teppenpaw's bed waiting for her to come in and read it:
Dearest Miss Dobson,
I hope this letter finds you well and that your journey to Sonora was not too uncomfortable. My cousin, Liliana, tells me that she likes the flying wagons though they sound kind of rocky in comparison to the Hogwarts Express to me.
My purpose of writing this letter is this, after dancing together at my Grandmother's ball, I found my mind plagued with thoughts of you. No other witch that night shone as lovely as you did and I dare say none other could hold a candle to your stimulating conversation.
Thus, my parent's announcement of our recent betrothal (an anomaly in our family to be sure) though surprising, did not, rest assured, fall upon unwelcome ears. I look forward to the time in which we can spend together after we leave school.
I know that this is short, but as Isaac keeps reminding me, I have to help him study for our Charms exam in the morning so until next time I am, faithfully,
Yours, Joseph

Portia had just come from the library to pick up some books for Charms. Studying wasn't something she enjoyed doing, not like Nora did-nobody liked studying the way her sister did-and research was the worst. She would much rather be looking at fashion magazines or dancing or something.
Recently, in particular, she'd been into weddings. With a large extended family, of course, the sixth year was constantly attending at least one per summer and often during midterm, having attended Amity Brockert's last August. Besides, she was the sort of girl who'd been planning her own since she was six.
More importantly though, Portia had learned of her own betrothal to Joseph Rosenthal recently and she couldn't be happier. Joseph was the most amazing guy, a true gentleman and she was truly glad she was marrying him. She had two years of school left and now she could hardly wait to graduate so they could be married, though the Teppenpaw was glad they'd have lots of time to get to know each other before hand. They already liked each other so she expected a wonderful marriage. Besides, she was sixteen and she should be betrothed by now. Nora had been betrothed when she was like, twelve and she cared far less about such things than Portia did.
Of course, the sixth year spent much more time planning her wedding than she did on schoolwork or anything else, though she was still in Dance Club and was planning to sign up for the school concert if it involved student participation as she was a prefect and besides, it sounded like something Portia would enjoy doing.
Still, her future wedding was more important than anything else. Just because she'd thought about it a lot over the years didn't meant the Teppenpaw wanted the exact same things she'd wanted as a child.
Sighing, Portia placed the library books on her desk. She would look at them later, instead taking out a sketchpad. She was considering designing her own wedding dress as well as the clothing for the bridesmaids, and she had lots of time to make this happen.
That's when she spotted the letter sitting on her bed, recognizing the seal at once. Portia grabbed it up, sat on her bed and opened it, eagerly devouring the contents of the letter, her cheeks growing warm. Once finished, she got up, found a quill and some parchment and began to write. Other things could wait, especially Charms homework. This was far more important.
Dear Mr. Rosenthal,
My journey to Sonora was perfectly acceptable though I do think the Hogwarts Express sounds much more luxurious and comfortable.
Thank you, I am very pleased to recieve your letter. You have been on my mind quite a bit too, I've never met a wizard that whose presence I enjoyed more and I've treasured the memories of the ball ever since.
I too was quite pleased when my parents told me. It was one of the happiest moments of my life and I eagerly look forward to the day we are wed. Perhaps we shall see each other over the holidays again.
Good luck on your exam tomorrow, you and Isaac both. I myself have a Charms essay to write.
And please do call me Portia, we are to be husband and some day.
Forever yours, Portia
She addressed the letter, got up, left the room, took it to the Owlry and sent it off. The Teppenpaw couldn't wait his reply.
