I'll get by with a little help from my friends

She had needed a cry. It had been a rough game all around, but when she heard Jemima's voice and felt the comforting touches from both of her roommates, she sniffled and wiped her tears off on the pillow. She sat up to see her friends, shaking breaths still shaking her small frame, but the sobs were lessening now that she was no longer alone. She wiped another couple more tears off her cheeks with the back of her hand.
"I don't know," she answered, her voice still rough from crying, not sure if she really had much to say about what was upsetting her. They had lost, and she'd done a terrible job of protecting the goals. That was pretty obvious. "I mean, I know I did the best I could, and I knew we didn't really have much chance of winning, but . . ." she took another deep shuddering breath, "did they have to be so mean about it?"
She sniffed her nose and wiped at her face again. "I only joined to play for fun, you know? That wasn't fun." She felt her eyes well with tear again and she tried really hard not to burst into sobs all over again. "This game is way more competitive than I'm used to."
