Between the rain and the fact that… well, they had been somewhat steamrollered, the game hadn’t exactly been the bright and happy occasion that she had been hoping for. She supposed it wasn’t entirely unexpected but it was still a shame.
She had lingered a little after the match, having got into discussion with Caelia (and with neither girl having a natural affinity for not chattering away) but eventually the need for something warming had driven her back to the dormitory. It wasn’t as if she’d got soaked through, but it seemed impossible to go out in rain and not get at least slightly damp around the edges, at least not without some serious charms work. It wasn’t enough to be uncomfortable but it was enough to nag and make her want to get back to somewhere with pillows and hot chocolate.
She returned to the Teppenpaw Commons, heading up to her dorm to deposit her banner, and found Ginger crying her eyes out. She felt a little bad that she had hung around chatting, instead of coming to see straight away whether she was alright because it should have occurred to her that she might well not be.
“Hey,” she said gently, sitting down on the edge of Ginger’s bed and stroking her back. “It’s ok,” she bit her lip, trying to think of reasons why it was. It was just a game…. But she knew that wouldn’t really be of comfort. You did well…. probably technically wasn’t that true, though she really wanted to say it. “It was always going to be really tough. They’re so much older than you and they’ve been playing together for years. But you still went out and faced them - that took a lot of guts. Plenty of people wouldn’t have been willing to do that. I was really proud to be supporting you guys.”
