As they walked to the entrance of the common room, he began pointing landmarks to the students. It was very important for them to pay attention so they wouldn’t get lost when they made the walk by themselves. Being lost was never a fun experience to anyone, especially a new students that didn’t know where was what.
After a few minutes of Dylan playing guide, he stopped in front of the stair with the diamond-shaped chip. “Look at this,” he said, pointing at the stairs. “It’s the only indication of the Common Room.”
“Now look at what I am about to do because unlike other Houses, we don’t have a password. We have a small jig.” Dylan began moving his feet in slow motion to the new jig he had come up with so that everyone could see it. He repeated it two more times before he opened the door and let everyone in.
“This is the common room! Welcome home, everyone,” he said with a smile. “This is where you’ll be living for the next seven years. Up that staircase are the girls’ dormitories, up that one, the boys,” he said as he pointed each one. “Girls can’t go up the boys’ stairs and vice-versa, so don’t try it, because if you do we will have a little chat about it.”
“This is the bulletin board. You can find important notices pinned to it, plus Quidditch sign-ups will be on it shortly. If you have questions about Quidditch, you can contact Captain Derry Pierce or his Assistant Lawrence Stratford,” Dylan commented while he waved at the general direction of where it was placed.
“This door leads to my office,” he added. “But you can find me in the infirmary almost any time if you have questions or just need to talk. You can also talk to your Prefects, Regina Parker, Lawrence Stratford, and Meghan Brownbriar.” He knew students were more likely to talk to their peers than the grown-up that was in charge of them. They were more comfortable that way, he supposed.
Dylan continued enumerating the many rules, “curfew is at ten, don’t try to outsmart me or you will end up in detention!” Dylan said with a mildly amusing frown on his face. “feel free to ask questions!” He said with his most friendly smile.
