Late at night by Skipper

It was late.. very late. Skipper had been laying in bed for some time, staring at the ceiling, wondering why he was still awake. His mind just wouldn't quit running. Maybe it was boredom, maybe it was the caffeine.. regardless, he NEEDED to figure out a way to fall asleep. Then it occurred to him! There were girls' dorms. Why not pay them a little visit. He knew Jasper had a keen interest in one of the girls because he couldn't stop staring at her anytime she was around. Maybe he would conspire with Skipper.

So many questions.. when to go, what to do while we were there, how would we get in, would we get caught, how could we prevent getting caught. Would Jasper even go along with it?

No better time for adventures! by Jasper Malone

The first week of school had been a long one, and Jasper was kind of adjusting to the expectations of public schools. He’d had work to do when he was homeschooled, but it wasn’t the sort of work they were being given here. It seemed like everything was really simple, which Jasper guessed was probably because not everyone started out the same, ‘cause you had people like him who were homeschooled and then people who didn’t even come from magical families at all, but was still pretty boring. Plus, he wasn’t used to having to wake up with everyone else and therefore go to sleep with everyone else. And sleeping with other people in the room! That was still kind of creepy.

After a week at training camp, the masters have given us a two day break so that we can recuperate and the people who lost limbs to the dragons on Tuesday can work on growing them back using advanced spells and potions. If they aren’t careful, they might accidentally make them into tentacles instead. That happened before everybody went to bed tonight. The Others had to get rid of that kid because they can’t train someone with tentacles. He is to be an example for all of us.

It didn’t help that the brown-haired boy, currently wearing his plaid pyjama pants and a white sleeping shirt with his initials and a scorpion on it, sometimes current sleep at regular hours. At home, he would do an astronomy lesson or write his logbook or read, because it didn’t matter when he went to sleep because it didn’t matter when he got up. But here, that was all different. His roommates were pretty cool guys even if they were all pretty different from him, and Jasper still meant to turn them all into an adventuring team.

Shifting to his left side and turning his pillow over, hoping the cool side would make it easier to sleep, Jasper fought down the feeling that he needed to move and now. Sometimes he felt like just running, or just exploring, or just doing something. Now was one of those times, but Jasper also knew that people would think he was weird if he did something like that. He didn’t want people to think that, because he thought everyone he’d met so far was pretty cool and he didn’t want them to not want to be friends with him. Kids at public school had done that a little bit. Jasper wasn’t school-oriented enough to be called a nerd, but that just meant that he was the weird kid.

Now they are testing us with mental tests. We have to stay absolutely still or else they will send giant snakes with foot-long fangs to skewer us while--

Jasper stopped mentally recording his logbook (he still hadn’t started writing it down yet because he didn’t want to be weird) when he realized that the glimmer he was seeing was actually the dim light reflecting off of Skipper’s eyes. Pausing for a few seconds before deciding what to do, Jasper finally decided that if Skipper was up too, there was no reason not to talk to him.

“Hey, Skipper,” Jasper whispered, loud enough for Skipper to hear but hopefully not loud enough to wake anyone else up. “Are you awake?”
