Captain Hannah Laurent

Being responsible for posting up the Quidditch sign-ups felt odd. Last year, Dalila had put them up and every year that she knew of before that was Jake. Now, it was her turn and she couldn’t help feeling incredibly nervous about the endeavor. Teppenpaw never had a lot of sign-ups, but Dalila and Jake had always managed to fill the team. What if she couldn’t? She would be the worst Captain ever.

So, it was with a sense of unease that she put up the sign-up sheet, which read as follows:

Teppenpaw Quidditch

Interested in joining the Teppenpaw Quidditch team? Then sign up below with your name, year, and position interested in. Based on the rules, first years are not allowed to join the team. Sorry. Tryouts TBA.

As an example, she wrote down her own name.

Captain Hannah Laurent, Fifth Year, Seeker

Taking a step back, she examined the page to see if she was forgetting anything. Satisfied that she could at least do that much, she headed off to her room to think up strategies. She really had to step up her game if she had a prayer of making a professional team one day.

Amber Carey

Oversleeping was a constant threat to the young person away from home, as Amber had discovered time and time again over her first five years at Sonora. Now, it seemed, she was not fated to become a natural early riser in her sixth year any more than she had been in any of the years preceding it.

The morning after Quidditch sign-ups went up, Amber woke up late and, in spite of her efforts to fly through her shower and dressing routine, was still going to be fifteen minutes late for breakfast at best as she dashed down the stairs to the common room. As she paused to finish pulling her thick, damp blonde hair into a ponytail in the commons, the notice on the bulletin board caught her eye.

Though she knew she had no great talent for the game, Amber had enjoyed being on the team the year before, and goodness knew the team needed everyone it could get. Being over-full had never been a problem for the Prairie Dogs. She would go out for her old spot again.

Because she was already running late, she decided to leave signing the sheet for later. To her own surprise, she even remembered to do it the same evening. Maybe CATS prep had, despite its failure to give her a single O, done something to help her with her organizational and memory skills.

Elliot Valentine

It took Elliot a full day to realize the Quidditch sign-ups were tacked up to the bulletin board, but once he noticed the sheet, he dug through his bag frantically for a quill and ink pot. Half his bag was spilled onto the floor before retrieving the required objects and splattering ink all over his hand before managing to write his name on the piece of paper.

Elliot Valentine, 2nd year, chaser

He figured chaser was a safe bet. There were more positions open that he could get and he really wasn't coordinated enough to be able to fly straight, swing a bat and aim at a moving target at the same time.

He glanced at the sheet one last time before ducking down to gather up all the bits of parchment, books, and Droobles Gum that had fallen around his feet. Now for a bigger question: to go run to Ethan and ask if his sign-up sheet was up yet, or to start those questions for charms that were due next week. The answer was obvious and Elliot ran straight back out the secret entrance to try and flag down his twin.

Afton Stokes

One thing Afton had been certain she would never do was sign up for the Quidditch team. She wasn't afraid and she wasn't that morally opposed, at least not in the sense that was a horribly violent game. (After all, violence could be interesting and creative. Violent crime was more interesting to read about than property crime any day.) It was merely a lack of interest in anything athletic on her part. Plus there was the fact that jocks usually acted like entitled little snots who thought they were better than others because they were athletic when they really weren't any better than those who acted superior because they were from "important pureblood families." It didn't matter the reason someone acted like an uppity jerk, they were still an uppity jerk.

Of course, then Afton had seen the sign-up sheet in Teppenpaw. The sign-up sheet that far less names on it than it needed. She figured that it had to do with the fact that Teppenpaws were about friendly cooperation rather than competition. This was something she could appreciate.

On the other hand, there was also something inherent in her Teppenpaw personality, that was about giving to others and doing things she didn't really want to for the greater good. Like signing up for the solo last year.

Besides, that had been sort of fun, hadn't it? There was definitely something to be said for getting up in front of what was nearly the entire school and singing "See My Vest". Maybe Quidditch would be fun too. And Afton didn't have to become a jerk, her brother had played Little League and he was mostly not a jerk, and when he was, it wasn't the entitled arrogant jerk, it was a more the big brother type of jerk...and really, not all the Quidditch players here or at Salem had been either, so it was possible...

Afton bit her lip and thought about the different positions. Keeper had to be the best option, Keepers had the least to do in a game. They had to stop the Quaffle but it wasn't nearly as bad as Chaser. She placed her name on the list.
