It hadn't taken Mollie long to settle down at all. Having been used to moving around a lot, she had instantly grabbed the best bed, in the corner by the window of her dorm and set about unpacking. Fortunately she knew she was going to be here for longer than a couple of months. It was a different and entirely welcome feeling. It was nice to know that you wouldn't be uprooted at any time for any reason. So that first day when she had unpacked, she actually had gotten out all of her things.
The new clothes from her last family were tucked away in her dresser, with the few trinkets she owned sitting on top. Binx, her new black kitten sat curled up on her pillow as Mollie snoozed in the middle of her bed, book open on her stomach. Funny how she had settled in so fast in a place she though could never exist.
Magic; something totally new and unexpected. How in the world could she have gone through her eleven years of life without knowing she was a witch, with magical powers? Naturally it explained all of the odd happenings of her childhood, overflowing toilets when she got angry, one of her foster sibling's hair turning purple when he teased her about her eyes; it all made sense now. Now she had a place where she actually belonged, where there were other people like her. She wondered if the school would help set her up with a magical family after this year instead of a muggle one. It wouldn't hurt to ask.
Over the course of the last couple of days, she had grown accostomed to the fact that she had a wand; that she would eventually be able to disappear and reappear in different places; that potions were real and had real effects. Potions had so far been her favorite class, just like cooking and baking, her favorite thing to do. It had been the easiest class for her to pick up. Transfiguration would certainly be a stretch for her, but she'd work at it, she wanted to work at it.
As she napped in her bed, the afternoon sunshine pouring in through the tall windows, she rolled over to find somebody else in the room. Smiling, she yawned, covering her mouth out of politeness. "Hey, what's goin' on?" Ruffling her scruffy brown hair from her blue and green eyes, she rubbed them sleepily.
Krisalyn lazily walked into her dormitories, not expecting to find anyone there, as it was only just after lunch, and most people were either still in the Cascade Hall or in the common room. However, when she did see a brunette napping, Krisalyn instantly slowed and stopped dragging her feet. The girl had a smile on her face, and, not wanting to wake her from a happy dream, Krisalyn crept over to her bed. She had chosen one in the middle of the room as to be able to make friends, and have a comfortable temperature surrounding her, as she would not be disturbed by drafts coming through the wooden door. She had actually wanted the bed near the window, but, as she saw now, the coveted spot was already taken.
Krisalyn dropped her book bag on to the mattress, and began to unload it, carefully. She was very happy with her classes so far, although Defense Against the Dark Arts seemed to be difficult. Krisalyn had never in her life been one for violence, with such a compassionate and empathetic nature. And although the first lesson had absolutely nothing to do with violence, Krisalyn had found it hard to use her magic to cast something that was normally used to find something evil. Luckily, though the rest of her classes were going very well, and Krisalyn had even made a few friends, something which was a bit hard for her because of her shy attitude.
Suddenly Krisalyn dropped her History of Magic book with a loud thump onto the ground, and she cursed silently under her breath. Turning, Krisalyn smiled when the previously napping girl rubbed her eyes and asked, "What's going on?"
"Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to wake you up, my book just dropped..." Krisalyn let herself trail off, not wanting to take over the conversation, "Uh, my name's Krisalyn, what's yours?" She felt stupid for saying such a classic line, but stuck her hand out nonetheless.
"Oh, no bother." Mollie smiled broadly, forgeting she had strange sayings like that. Her last foster mother before the one she had just left was an Irish immigrant and often said things that and Mollie had picked them up. "Shouldn't sleep all day anyway." In truth she had been reading her potions text, but the warm sunshine streaming in the windows and the comfort of a bed she knew was hers put her right to sleep.
Sitting up, she smoothed out her lime green t-shirt and brushed her straggly brown hair from her face again. It was going to need a trim soon, maybe one of the older girls could help her out with that. She marked her place in her potions text and set it off to the side, on her bedside table.
"Mollie, nice to meet you Krisalyn." Mollie took the offered hand and shook it eagerly. There had been little time to get to know her roommates since school started. Between classes and getting settled, they hadn't done much in the room at the same time besides sleep. Excited to meet new people, like Kaden at the welcome feast, Mollie was intersting in making friends but also to learn more about magic and magical families. Being an orphan always made you curious about your heritage. Perhaps one or both of her parents had been a witch or wizard?
"So, where are you from? I'm from Boston, up on the east coast." In truth, it had scared her a little to come all the way across the country to go to school, but where else was she going to go? Why not travel somewhere new in the process? It made the adventure all that more exciting. Though the grounds of the school were nothing like what she had learned about in muggle primary school. It was supposed to be dry and hot, not lush and temperate like it was. There must have been some strong charms in place across the campus.
Oh, extremely, and ducks can fly, too!

Krisalyn was extremely relieved that her roommate took the interruption of her nap well. She didn't want any enemies or anything at the start of term, although it would be very unlikely for that to happen because of an accidentally dropped book. Krisalyn looked the girl over, just to see what she looked like, and hopefully not forget her name later. She noticed her bright green t-shirt, and liked the style. Bright colors were always pretty to Krisalyn, and she admired the girl for her flair. The young witch fingered her own camouflage blouse self-consciously with the hand that wasn't jutted out. Krisalyn was happy, though, when her classmate introduced herself as Molly and shook her hand without hesitation.
Mollie then asked Krisalyn where she was from, saying that she was from Boston. She was interested at once, because she had once visited there, and had liked the sights. It was a surprise to find someone so near her own state, and Krisalyn answered, "Oh, how cool! I loved it there when I visited! I'm from Vermont. Our states are almost neighboring each other," she felt stupid for that last remark, so she added, "It's nice to meet someone that isn't from the west coast either," and then just to fill up some space, and out of curiosity, Krisalyn asked, "Do you have any siblings?"

"Wicked, Boston's a great place." Mollie grinned. She'd been over just about every inch of that city, whether by accident or on an adventure, she'd seen quite a bit. Her favorite places were the Faneuil Hall was her favorite place to visit and walk around. She also got into a lot of trouble in Southie on the docks. "Did you get to go on a Duck Tour? Those are the best. Next time you go, you should definitely try those out." Not only was it historical, but it was highly entertaining! When she had been taken their guide was a bald guy with some long equation written on the back of his head.
"I can't say I've ever been to Vermont, but I'd like to visit. I want to see all of the snow you guys get up there." Boston didn't get great snow, sometimes, but it was generally cleaned up very quickly because of the traffic problems it caused. Mollie wanted to see the accumulation they got in Vermont and New Hampshire. She also wanted to learn to snowboard, but wasn't sure when that was going to happen.
"I don't have any real siblings." Mollie answered Krisalyn's question straight-faced. "I've had lots of foster brothers and sisters over the years, but none that are really related to me." She shrugged. There was no point in hiding the fact that she was an orphan, she didn't really mind, the constant change of pace was what kept her going. However, now that she was here at school, she was content to belong somewhere a whole seven years. By then she'd be an adult and could take care of herself.
"What about you, are you from a magial family?" It was natural curiosity, plus she wanted to learn about her roommates as they would be living together for so long. Best to get to know them.
Ohh, really, but I'm afraid of heights!

"Yes! The duck tours were so awesome! It also helps that they're my favorite animal," Krisalyn replied, smiling. The young witch wasn't disappointed at all, though, when Mollie said that she had never been to Vermont. Most people hadn't, she had learned a long while ago. It was a pretty rural and not very known state. When she mentioned the snow, though, her smile bloomed into an all-out beaming grin. Snow was Krisalyn's favorite weather, which was convenient for a person who lived in one of the snowiest states. She loved snowball fights and snow angels and snowmen, and she voiced that to her roommate.
Krisalyn was surprised and confused for a moment when Mollie said that she didn't have any siblings, but it all made sense to her when Mollie mentioned that they were foster. She gasped, a bit loudly, she noticed, and bit her lip. She barely heard the girls question.
"Oh, wow!" she exclaimed, "Me too! I mean, I was adopted, also! I haven't been moving around at all since I was seven, but, gosh, that's so weird!" Krisalyn was ecstatic to have someone that knew her situation, that could relate. Her three brothers were all actual children to her mother, and never really understood Krisalyn's yearning to know who her real parents were, whether dead or alive. "I can finally talk to someone!" the young witch said enthusiastically, only realizing then that she had said it aloud.
0KrisalynOhh, really, but I'm afraid of heights!0Krisalyn05
Mollie grinned when Krisalyn said she had been on the duck tours. Mol knew she sounded like a walking advertisement for Boston sometimes, but she loved the city. The city itself was really the only home she had ever known. Luckily in all of her moves she had been within the city, so all of her haunts remained the same, the T ride was just a bit different. Being bounced around so much made a girl flexible in her habits.
"I'd love to have a real snowball fight again." She had gotten one chance back when she was about 6, when her foster family at the time had taken a trip to Maine during winter break. It had been one of her favorite trips ever.
She was about to continue further when Krisalyn revealed that she too had been an orphan, only she had found a family. Funny how things like that worked out sometimes. Mollie was a big believer in taking life into your own hands and doing what you want with it, but she always stopped to reflect on the irony of fate sometimes.
"Congrats, I'm still on the move." Mollie's smile faultered just a little before she realigned it back to the grin from before. She was only midly jealous of those who got adopted; she had been much more avid about it when she was younger, but she slowly lost the vigor as she gained in years. Of course Mollie wanted to have a family to belong to, but she was certainly dependent on herself now and had learned to move about without much of a care. Of course she sometimes got attatched to her foster families, but just tucked them away in her heart, building up the broken pieces to someday make a whole.
Unfortunately this kind of attitude left her with little curosity to learn about her real family, though new interest had been peaked when she found out about the magic. Hopefully she wouldn't let Krisalyn down as a discussion partner. "Maybe that's how we got put together as roommates." Mollie suggested, at least they had something like that in common. She had been a little worried she wouldn't get a long with her housemates, but now she was pretty sure that at least Krisalyn would become a good friend.
OOC- Sorry for the long wait, school has me kept up all the time!
When Mollie congratulated Krisalyn on finding a home and keeping it, she felt a bit guilty. It seemed as though she was flaunting the fact that she had found a family, and made to apologize for her rudeness. Mollie seemed a bit depressed about the whole thing and so the auburn haired girl put her arms around her new friend, embracing loosely. Krisalyn herself had been shuffled around a few times before, and knew how unpleasant it was. The concept of moving away from her family though, made her shiver. Her whole world would be put into dissaray if she didn't know that there were three brothers and a mom at home waiting.
Krisalyn couldn't imagine what it was like for Mollie to never have someone to hold onto. So she decided to be that one person, right then and there. "Mollie," she spoke to the girl, "Just because you're not in a permanent family right now doesn't mean you won't ever be. And I know that you've heard that literally a million times before, but it's so true! Also, look on the bright side. You're at Sonora now, so even though in the non-magical world you don't have a keeping home, you do in the world you belong."
BIC- Surprised by the movement of her roommmate, Mollie smiled a little wider at the loose hug. It seemed she had found her first friend at school and was truly glad for it. "Oh I know." Mol tilted her head, still smiling in her roommate's direction as she retracted. "I've gotten quiet used to moving a bit. I think it was the magic that got me moved around all the time. Maybe now I can find a foster home with magical parents." That would be really cool, to see if she could stay with a family that was magical. Surely there had to be an orphanaged system for witches and wizards; she made a mental note to ask her head of house about it before the winter break.
"I think I can stay here over the winter break, which will be fun." She shrugged, she'd have to find out about that too. Apparently she had an appointment to make with her HoH about her life. Tough stuff for an eleven year old. Shifting those thoughts to the back of her mind, she shifted a little uncomfortably on her bed, changing to lying on her stomach; she had never really been one for emotions, having never really gotten attatched to anybody. Binx watched, mildly intrested in what the girls were doing, meowing just to get some attention from Mollie as she scratched the back of his ears.
"So how do you think all of this is going to go? The classes and stuff, this is really different than what I'm used to." Mollie was genuinely curious about classes and what boarding school was like in general. She had always been in muggle public schools, which in Boston, were an experience of their own. She was sure that this would be entirely different, well she hoped anyway. She meant to go down to the libray and get some books to start doing some research on the wizarding world.
