Needing my prefect! Tag: Kaylie Brockert by Kasey Braye

Kasey stormed out of Cascade Hall, not even caring that she hadn't eaten anything. Her cousins were driving her crazy! All Kasey had been doing for MONTHS was trying to help them, but now they were dragging her down with them. Kasey had enough of it.

"I can't BELIEVE them! They must be crazy or something!" Kasey muttered loudly to herself as she stalked down the hallway towards the Teppenpaw Common Room. Kasey was determined to find Kaylie Brockert and complain about her cousins. Kasey hadn't realized how much they had gotten under her skin by moving in with her and her family.

Kasey didn't care if Camren and Caden got in trouble or not. Not anymore, she didn't.

Kasey entered the Common Room and shouted at the top of her lungs, "KAYLIE!!" Kasey looked around the room to see where she would pop out from. "KAYLIE!" Kasey shouted again. She was getting red in the face from both anger and expelling all of her air at once by calling Kaylie. Kasey knew that Kaylie would want every reason to get Camren and Caden in trouble, and Kasey was more than willing to give that to her.

"KAYLIE!" Kasey shouted once more.

I fit one of the requirements by Lexi Stafford

It was a very rare occurrence that someone would be shrieking in the Teppenpaw common room. After all, most of the students in that house were there because they were generally somewhat civilized. However, there always were exceptions to the rule, normally in first years who hadn’t realized the way of things.

That seemed to be what was happening presently, Lexi noted as she reentered the common room to the yells of a smaller girl. Because it wasn’t already like she’d had a bad enough day, what with the whole thing with Chris (that she was refusing to think about right now, otherwise she’d hit something. Or start crying again, and she’d only just managed to make herself look presentable). Now there was a first year throwing a hissy fit, or what sounded like.

However, once she’d listened more carefully (not hard to do, given the decibel range of the shouts), Lexi gathered that it wasn’t just random noise, but the younger student was actually calling for Kaylie. It was a bit ridiculous, since it would have been far easier to just go find the older girl in the sixth year girls’ dormitory, which was were the other prefect would have been if in Tepp at all, since she obviously wasn’t in the common room. However, some people just couldn’t be sensible, apparently.

“I’m sorry, do you need something?” Lexi said as soon as the probable first year stopped yelling. She managed to keep her annoyance to a minimum, though that took a great deal of effort. Still, she was a prefect (she took a instantaneous glance at her badge to make sure it was on straight, because she wanted to make a good impression of being an organized, diligent upperclassman when dealing with younger students, even if she wasn’t one), so she needed to be nice, even to people who appeared to be fools. “I haven’t seen Kaylie around yet, though if it’s something general you need, I could probably help. I’m Lexi Stafford.”

That you do! by Kasey

Kasey had been so overly angry at her cousins that she hadn't realized that she had made a ruckus in the Teppenpaw Common Room, calling for Kaylie. Who apparently wasn't even there at all! Instead, another older student came out and asked if Kasey needed something.

Kasey had stopped screaming when she saw the girl come towards her, and looked sort of surprised to see that it wasn't Kaylie, like she had thought would come at calling her name. 'Is her name Kaylie too?' Kasey asked herself as the girl's prefect badge shined in the light of the room. The girl said she hadn't seen Kaylie around yet, but that she might try to help if there was something that Kasey needed. Kasey looked at her, anger growing in her face. "Kasey, Kasey Braye. Nice to meet you Lexi!" Kasey said, introducing herself, then getting down to the point. "It's my cousins! They're just ridiculous! I don't even know what to do anymore! I can't handle them!"

The eleven year old looked at her other prefect and wondered what else she needed to do to get Camren and Caden into trouble... Part of her even wanted to help their father find them- but her conscience told her that wouldn't be too nice to them, especially to Camren. Kasey sighed and looked up to Lexi. "I can't take care of them forever! I mean, Camren's older than I am! I don't know what to do!" Kasey looked up at Lexi, and waited as quietly as the first year could, for any response.

Indeed by Lexi

Lexi had thought that approaching the first year would have helped force the strange phenomenon of someone shouting in the common room make sense. Unfortunately, that didn’t appear to work, as Kasey’s explanation of what her problem was only brought the redhead more confusion. She could understand not wanting to have to deal with family at school, of course, but that seemed to be where the similarities between the two of them ended. And she imagined that there was a lot of the story that Lexi hadn’t heard.

“There, there, it’s alright,” she said once the girl appeared to have finished her angry ranting, patting Kasey on her arm as unawkwardly as possible (a challenge, given that she’d only met the girl two seconds ago). “What precisely is the problem with your cousins, that they want to hang out with you or something? There’s nothing wrong with needing your space, if that’s the problem, and I’m sure if you let them know politely, they’ll be fine with it. I mean, I don’t know your cousins, but it’s a fair assumption to make.”

It was difficult, trying to read between the lines enough to give an applicable answer, and for all Lexi knew she was entirely off about what the problem is, but this seemed like an appropriate approach. And if she were wrong, well, the worst that could happen was that Kasey would be more specific about what was going on. “There are also clubs and things you can join, if you just feel like you can’t do anything with classes and stuff to get away from your family.”

Bringing me down by Kasey

Lexi said that it was alright, and patted Kasey on her arm. Lexi asked what the problem was with them, and Kasey opened her mouth, and it kept on moving.

"Camren and Caden are my cousins." Kasey said. "They've been living with me and my family since they left their dad. There mom is there too, with their twin siblings. They're around all the time. They just won't leave me alone! And all I tried to do was help them. But Caden is QUIET ALL the time. She only speaks to me and Camren. Camren is better than Caden is, but she drives me crazy too! I mean, she keeps on all this holding back from people because of her Dad and she won't let many people get to know her." Kasey was just complaining now, and she didn't care.

"Clubs won't help! They still bring me down! I won't get into anything with them like they are! I mean Camren's a year older than Caden and I, but she doesn't act it! And Caden! She's my age, but she acts like my little brother!!!" Kasey looked at Lexi and sighed. "I just don't know what to do! I mean, I'm not their Mom, but I'm acting like it! And I'm TIRED of it! I want to be my own person! I don't care what their father did to them! I don't care that they're my cousins! I just want to be me!"

I am? by Lexi

Camren and Caden…the first rang a very faint bell, making Lexi think she’d heard the name before, but couldn’t put a face with it. The second wasn’t familiar at all. Still, that didn’t really matter, as Lexi understood the theory and broad themes of this relationship fairly well, well enough to muddle through this, at least.

“Whoa, slow down,” she said instinctively as Kasey’s voice got angrier. This could get out of control so easily. “Seriously, there’s no reason to get so upset about it. I mean, trust me, it can be hard having family here.” Particularly when he’s your ex-boyfriend’s roommate, she added caustically, before brushing Chris to the back of her mind. She had already been upset over him, he wasn’t worth it happening again, particularly in less than an hour.

“Some people are just shy, and you can’t change that about them. Sounds just like your cousins. A lot of people grow out of it, but you just have to tolerate it until that happens. Don’t blame your cousins for that. It’s not their fault.

“However, there really is no reason that you can’t be your own person, as you said,” she hastily added. “Like I said, just tell your cousins that you want some space, and want to do your own thing some of the time—more than now, at least. You don’t have to be their mother, and, while it’s kind of you to support your cousins, there’s nothing wrong with wanting not to be surrounded by family all the time.

“And, seriously, you’re not going to get judged because of your family no matter what they do. At least it never happened with my brother and me, though it would have been very easy for people to apply my characteristics to him, and vice versa. Your family isn’t something you can do anything about, so people aren’t going to be petty enough to hold them against you.”

She hoped that her advice was enough to help the girl, because Lexi honestly didn’t know what else she could do. Kasey seemed a little melodramatic, and, while the fifth year understood where the girl was coming from, if Kasey couldn’t listen to her advice, there wasn’t much else Lexi could do.

No, not you! by Kasey

Kasey didn't know what else to do. She was standing there in front of one of her house prefects complaining about her cousins. This prefect may not even know who she was, not to mention Camren and Caden! Kasey was more than angry, she didn't even have words for what she felt inside. Lexi told her to slow down, that there was no reason to get so upset about it. Kasey looked at Lexi, a shocked look on her face. "No reason?" Kasey said through clenched teeth as Lexi added the bit about when he's your ex-boyfriend's roommate and Kasey looked at Lexi curiously. Something must have just happened that made Lexi say that, and Kasey was curious. She calmed down a little and listened to what Lexi was saying. "I know some people are shy, and that I can't change that, but I just can't be there all the time, you know?" Kasey added. "I don't BLAME them. Not really. It's all their Dad's fault, but..."

Kasey paused. "Do you think it will help to tell them that I need my space?" Kasey did still want to spend time with them, but she also wanted to be her own person too. Kasey wasn't sure how she could do both.

Kasey listened to Lexi talk about being judged and wondered if she was right. Kasey had calmed down, just slightly thanks to Lexi, and Kasey looked at Lexi with a slight smile. "Thanks. I feel better now. I'm sorry I came in like a hoodlum. I hope I didn't interrupt anyone, I was just upset 'cause I just had a fight with my cousins, and I didn't know what to do."

Just making sure by Lexi

OOC: Just for the record (fortunately, it wasn't mentioned), the line about her brother and ex-boyfriend actually wasn't said aloud.

Despite first impressions, Kasey seemed to be a sweet girl. A bit confused, and with potential to be a bit histrionic and melodramatic, maybe, but sweet nonetheless.

"Yes, I'm sure it will help," Lexi replied positively. "Your cousins probably didn't have any idea you felt that way, since most people wouldn't intentionally try constantly to be around someone when they know the other person doesn't want them to do so."

She grinned at the other girl, though Lexi didn't entirely feel it, when Kasey apologized for the way she came in. "It's fine. It's the first day back, so most people probably have yet to start anything so major that a small interruption or disturbance is going to be a complete disaster. Fights..." she faltered a little, but took a deep breath and continued on. "Fights of any sort can be hard to deal with afterward. Just be more careful about where you let of steam next time. And, you know," she concluded with a sudden burst of inspiration, "If you need me to talk to your cousins, or just need someone to talk to about things you're having problems with, I'm almost always around." There, she was properly prefectly. Wonderful.

Absolutely by Kasey

OOC: Thanks!

BIC: Lexi was positive that would help Kasey's situation and Kasey smiled at her. "You're probably right." Kasey said to Lexi. "Thanks. And I really am sorry about how I came in here. I didn't mean to start a ruckus or anything."

Kasey smiled at Lexi as she said that it was alright, and that it was the first day back so it wasn't so bad. But when Lexi paused, Kasey wondered if she was okay. It looked to Kasey that Lexi was upset about something, a fight maybe.

"Thanks." Kasey said, wondering to herself if Lexi was okay. Kasey watched Lexi's eyes with the intent of figuring it out. "I really appreciate it."
