QUIDDITCH SIGN-UPS by Jake Santoro

As usual, Jake was all prepared for gathering as many potential players for his Quidditch team. Once the feast was over, he had gone up to his room and grabbed his already pre-made notice. Once he had that and made sure it was perfect, he pinned it up onto the notice board. Hopefully, he wouldn't have to worry about getting a team and that his fellow team members from the year before would just happily re-sign themselves for the team this year. It made his life easier that way.

His notice read:

QUIDDITCH SIGNUPS/TRY-OUTS

For those interested in playing Quidditch or for those who have already previously been on the team, please feel free to signup for try-outs. Try-outs for any spot will take place on Friday. Walk-ins are always welcomed.

Please follow the guidelines for signing up by following my example. If you have never played Quidditch before or do not know what Quidditch is, please make sure to make a note of that beside your name and I'll see what I can do about that.

First! by Dalila Bastet

Dalila woke up the morning after the feast, feeling very groggy. All that food made her so sleepy after a summer of living off of pop tarts and her grandmother's delicious, but rather sparse meals. She changed slowly as her head began to clear and after a good half hour of siphoning through her things (which had yet to be unpacked) she managed to get down to the common room with her school things.

As she was leaving, a familiar piece of parchment with familiar handwriting caught her attention. Breathing deeply, Dalila walked over to the Quidditch sign-up sheet, and for the first time in her life at Sonora, she hesitated. Although her feelings for Jake had faded, they were still there. Luckily Adam had been there. Dalila let out a small smile.

She just had to decide which was more important to her: Quidditch or trying to forget Jake. Dalila grabbed a quill from her new school bag (yellow and maroon with a little prairie dog stitched into the corner by her grandmother) and signed up. She took a last glance at her signature and sighed. Here goes nothing.

A feeling of excitement drifted over Hannah as soon as she had woken up. It was great to be back at Sonora and no longer be a first year. Better still was the fact there her best friend/sister was finally here. She had been hoping Addie would end up in Teppenpaw was sorely mistaken when she ended up in Crotalus. She had heard negative things about the House last year, but that was before she had met Oliver. He was in that House and had been rather nice when they worked in Charms together last year. Her other partner, Lucas, had seemed a little edgy, but friendly enough. She made a mental note to try and talk to both of them again.

After she had finished getting ready, she passed through the Common room, about to head out to the Hall for breakfast. Midway she stopped. Last night, she had heard that the Sign-Up sheets were supposed to be posted earlier than last year. Backtracking, she made her way over to the board. Lo and behold, it was there. She gave a little squeal of joy, not caring who might have seen it.

Maybe this year she would get a regular spot. Last year, she had been the Reserve Seeker, but had actually gotten to play in a game. Unfortunately, the other team's Seeker had proved better. Hannah swore that if she made it this year, she was going to practice as hard as she could so she never disappointed the team again. Not that anyone had said anything, but she had felt so responsible. Of course, she supposed that was the tough part of being a Seeker.

Eagerly, she pulled out a pen and signed her name to the list:

Which would make me third by Law Cooper

So he had to ride the bench all of last year - just being part of the team was a fun experience for Law. Plus, he still got to practice with the team; so it wasn't like he wasn't doing anything productive. All in all, being part of the Quidditch team was one of the coolest things he got to do last year, he practically felt obligated to sign up again. Maybe if he worked hard, and luck was on his side, he would even get a starting position on the team. Yeah, he would really like that.

Just like his brother Zane would probably love to be trying out for his house Quidditch team this year. But the new rule forbidding first years to play had been enacted just in time for his brother to enter school. The heavy set boy sympathized for his brother, he really did. But Law was also secretly glad. Back home, Zane frequently put off homework and studying to play Quidditch. Maybe now his brother would actually care about school, or even form some other hobbies.

He shook his head, mousy brown hair bouncing. Somehow his often single-minded brother getting other hobbies just didn't seem likely.

Dipping a blue quill into black ink, he scratched his name before heading down to Cascade Hall.

He was going to meet his younger brother and cousin there to make sure they knew where their classes were. He didn't want to give them any excuses for being late - there would be no howlers from home on Law's watch.

Quidditch was something Kaylie had thought long and hard about most of the summer (when she wasn't trying to stop Nina from badmouthing Chelsea and scaring Adam or just plain moping.) She hadn't been sure she was going to sign up this time. Kaylie felt horrible about letting them down last time, even though she knew Hannah had done her best and she didn't want to worry about letting them down again. Plus, people at Sonora took it way too seriously. It was supposed to be fun! She didn't even have a seeker's body. Jennifer and Zack were small, and so was Hannah. The new Pecari seeker was really tall and gangly though. Kaylie was top heavy. There was also that she worried Adam.

On the other hand, she really did like Quidditch. That's when Kaylie saw the sign-ups. They didn't have very many people signed up yet. She reasoned it would be letting them down more if she didn't sign up at all and put her name on the list.

There had never really been any question about Lexi signing back up for quidditch, despite what she’d feared at the beginning of the summer. Even though she’d thought her grades hadn’t quite been up to par, her father had (shockingly) disagreed. So, she had managed to keep her broom, and gotten no injunctions about not being allowed onto the pitch. Life was good.

She had wondered for a moment whether being a prefect and/or having to study for CATS would make playing this year a bad idea, but then came to her senses. Well, actually, senses might not be the correct term. Stubborn as a mule-ness was probably far more accurate. She wanted to play quidditch, so she was going to play quidditch.

So as soon as she noticed that Jake had put the form up (which apparently was rather later than the event occurred, as several others had already jotted down their information), she added her name to the bottom of the forming list.

It was odd, at home Pepper had never regarded herself as the most sporty person. Sure, she played Muggle sports in the garden with Theo, but that was cos Theo made her. But at school, she had become rather fond of being part of the Quidditch team, and now she found herself feeling like it was important - a priority, even. At home, she supposed her priority was her family. With that absent at Sonora, other things had been allowed to take her care and dedication.

After her first day back (having been chatting with Briony when they came back from the feast, and having been busy shepherdessing the first years that morning), Pepper made her way over the the sign-up sheet. Not the first to it, but by no means uneager.

'Pepper Jones, 4th Year, Keeper' she wrote clearly in biro (she found it easier, especially as she was writing on something vertical). Stowing the pen back in her bag, she smiled to herself as she thought about the coming try-outs.
