Adelita wasn’t too sure about this new construction that was done to the school. At least, not at first. She had gone to the ceremony – the ‘breaking of the bottle on the boat’ deal – and had immediately fallen in love with it. Not because it was a place just for the students to hang out and have fun, most especially friends who were in different houses, but there were rooms design for specific talents and desires. The most important of those being dance.
Dance! She had a room to dance in! She was so unbelievably excited to just have place that was meant for her feet to move freely. Without restriction. No more empty classrooms, no more dusty hallways. She had her dancing space!
On top of that, there was a room that held an ‘ocean’! Lita missed the Mexican beaches and the beautiful waters of Spain. The water was as much a part of her as dance was. Whenever she was home, her family went off to visit the relatives and she spent all of her free time laying in the sands or diving under the water. It was just what they did. They ate lots of delicacies and swam in the ocean. And now she could do that while in school! Of course, it wasn’t the same, but she would make do.
So, after the party, Adelita had written home and told her parents all about it. She had requested more dance outfits, slippers, and her bathing suits. She wasn’t sure if bikinis would be allowed, but that was all she had and it wouldn’t be right to have her mother buy her a one piece without being able to try it on first. If worse comes to worse, Lita would wear a t-shirt over her swim suit. She might look dumb, but it would be better than wearing a suit that might not fit to begin with.
Today she would be trying out the dance studio. It would be a couple of days before her mother was able to send her requests, so she’d have to make do with the outfits she had with her. And what she didn’t have, she could definitely make into something else. Oh the joys of magic!
Lita entered the dance room and looked around again, smiling brightly as she reviewed her surroundings. It was even better than some of the studios at her dance school. Of course, this place was brand new and her dance school was like thirty years old. She slipped out of her shoes and walked in her socks across the floor (she didn’t want to scuff the wood), setting down her bag and shoes in the corner. She found the player and selected the song she wanted to dance to. She could dance for herself this year. Even though she was background dancing for the graduate class and would need to learn all the new routines, overall, she didn’t have to impress anyone. So, for now, she was going to dance all for herself.
After stretching and warming up, but before the slow, soft music began, Lita transfigured her top into a flowy winter blue top that just covered her dance shorts. She felt this style suited the bitter sweetness of the song. Leaving her hair down because she felt more feminine with her hair hiding her face during parts of the dance, Adelita began the music and almost immediately started to dance.
She had seen Wicked over the summer and had fallen in love with it. The nobody girl that everyone was cruel to falling for the pretty boy who could have anyone he wanted but he only wanted her. It was every girls’ dream. It was Lita’s dream… to be the eyes of only one.
Hands touch, eyes meet Sudden silence, sudden heat Hearts leap in a giddy world. He could be that boy, But I’m not that girl
Her movements were light and graceful. Her lines perfectly extended. As she danced, her face showed the emotion of the song. A longing. A sadness. A loneliness.
Don’t dream too far, don’t lose sight of who you are, Don’t remember that rush of joy. He could be that boy, I’m not that girl… Every so often we long to steal, To the land of what might have been, But that doesn’t soften the ache we feel When reality sets back in
As the intensity of the song grew, so did the ferver of her dance. Not in pace, but with the exaggeration of emotion through her body. At the very end, the last line of ‘I’m not that girl’, Adelita twirled slowly until the last note ended. When she was done, she stood quite still, breathing heavily, but very happy. This space would definitely do well for her.

The new building on the school was sort of an unfamiliarity. Charlie had been attending Sonora for many years, and now it was different. It was weird. She thought it might be okay for the first and second years, to whom everything was sort of new, but for her, having something new added to the place she effectively called 'home' was very weird. On the other hand, she liked the thought of it. She liked the idea of having water around - she swam in the hotel pool a lot when she was at home and sort of missed swimming while she was at school - and the dance room was definitely somewhere she could learn to love. Maybe if she used MARS enough she would get accustomed to it. Perhaps.
Anyway, Charlie knew there was another person who would love the new addition, and as she gnetly open ed the door to room three she could tell she was right - Adelita was already in there, dancing the day away. Slipping just inside the door, Charlie could tell that Lita hadn't seen her, being lost as she was in tha dance, and she didn't want to distract her friend so she stayed there in the doorway until the song was finished. At which point she said, "I thought I'd find you here." Her voice echoed nicely around the room. It smelled new, and the sixth year took her shoes off before progressing any fruther into the room. "Ah, if only Juri could have seen that," she teased, making her way over to Lita. "So very pretty."
Charlie had a drawstring bag over one shoulder, which she shrugged off and let fall lightly to the floor. She had on black jazz pants over her white practise leotard, and her bag was full of shoes and drinking water. "I can go dance on my own over there if you're busy," she gestured to the far corner of the room, "but otherwise I thought we could maybe look into that contemporary stuff we talked about. you know, if you like."
Adelita jumped at the sound of the voice. She hadn’t heard anyone come into the room while she had been dancing. Both because the music had been playing, but also because she had been so involved in the dance that she wouldn’t have noticed even if there had been no music. When she turned, she found Charlie smiling at her. Returning the smile, Lita shrugged but didn’t look at all apologetic for having been caught in this room. Really, there should be no surprise that she would come test this room out at the first moment she had.
A blush crept into her cheeks at the mention of Juri, but Lita ignored it, instead choosing to pick up her wand and transfigure her top back to normal. She gave a small smile, looking somewhat embarrassed as she said, “Well, to be honest, when I heard the song, I immediately thought of him because its about a girl who loves a guy who loves another girl. Really, its quite the same situation.” Adelita paused for a moment before her eyes widened in horror, “Not to say that I’m in love with Juri!” Lita quickly said in case Charlie had some idea and was now thinking up a scheme to get things rolling. “I just meant that he’s into someone else and I’m into him and it’s just a total mess.”
Dropping the subject all together, Adelita searched the music for something else that was not so personal. “Oh, no I wasn’t busy. I just felt like dancing for awhile. Stretch my legs.” Lita explained. Not that she took many breaks from dancing. She currently had nothing to practice, so she was just going with whatever the music gave to her. It was fun and freeing. “I’m totally free for dancing contemporary. Besides, after midterm, I’m forcing you to dance hip hop with me, so it’s only fair that I dance contemporary with you.”
"Yeah, yeah," Charlie replied as Lita fumbled her words and assurred her that she wasn't in love with Juri. She bent down and touched her toes, then by turn took each foot up in her hand and streched her leg above her head. "Well look on the positive side," she said while she streched. "At least you know he likes girls." She grinned and stood up straight again. "I, on the other hand," she dropped slowly into splits, with her right leg in front, "have less idea than usual what is going through Daniel's head." She clasped her hands and put them over the end of her right foot, leaning her whole body forward so her chest meet her knee. She held this pose for a couple of seconds before getting back up and repeating the stretch on her other leg. "I mean, shall I just keep waiting around, or what?" she asked Lita. "I don't want to push him to reach a conclusion just for my sake but what am I supposed to do while he figures it all out?" She stood up again and pulled her right arm cross her body, pulling it with her left to straighten out a kink in her shoulder. "I guess I could always see if James is busy." She grinned at Lita and winked, then leant back to touch the floor, and completed a backwards walkover. "Oh hey, I can still do them," she sounded pleased with herself.
"Anyway, contemporary, right?" Charlie laughed. "Do you have any music for that sort of thing? Do you have any music for hip hop, for that matter? I guess you can find some over midterm. God I can't seem to shut up today," she noticed. "Feel free to silencio me if I get too annoying." Having taken her hair scrunchie out while saying this, Charlie stuffed it into her mouth while she regathered her dark hair into a tight ponytail before retrieving the scrunchie once more to keep her hair in place.
"What shoes shall we use?" she asked the dancing expert as she rummaged in her bag to fetch out a bottle of water. "I've got full sole jazz or split sole ballet flats - I could use something midway," she carried on talking more ot herself than to Lita. "Like split jazz or full ballet - ah well, make do, I guess." She looked up at Lita and laughed at herself for the second time. "Seriously, I wouldn't hold a silencing charm against you."
Adelita frowned at Charlie, fairly certain that she did not believe Lita in the slightest when it came to her feelings for Juri. That was fine too. It was still hard for Adelita to really grasp exactly what was going on in her own mind in regards to him. Maybe she was in love with him, she had never been in love so how would she know? She did know that she was crushing on him. She had been in past situations where a crush occurred, so at least she was that much aware. Beyond that… she had no clue.
She had no argument with Charlie. Adelita had to face the fact that Juri liked or loved another girl. But it was a girl. Charlie had to deal with the idea that Daniel was rather confused on the whole concept of which gender he leaned towards. Honestly, considering how much Daniel flaunted being Head Boy and Quidditch Captain, Lita was leaning more towards the fact that Daniel was far too in love with himself to be aware of anyone else. But she was not going to say that to either Charlie or Daniel. For one, because Charlie was already dealing with everything and for two, Lita considered Daniel a friend and even though he could seem egotistical, he was generally a nice guy. He just had some things to work out. “I have no idea. I am definitely not the person to ask about boys.” Lita, pointedly ignoring the comment on James because Charlie very well knew that Lita did not care much for the Aladren. Even less so than Quentin and Quentin drove her crazy in class with his questions. “I thought we were waiting to even discuss a new approach until after midterm? You know, if nothing comes of it?”
“You can pretty much take any popular pop song or ballad and make it into a contemporary piece.” Lita commented. “So, really, it just depends on if you want to dance slowly or if you want to have something upbeat and fun. I have music for either and the radio is bound to have more options for us.” While Charlie finished putting her hair up, Adelita went to her bag and grabbed her bottle of water. She new better than to not have any sort of hydration for her body when she was dancing. She had been a witness to many people who became sick from lack of supplement. “Charlie, do I look like someone who listens to rap?” Adelita asked. “I’ll be getting the music at midterm and the dance routine. I’ll have gotten some practice in too while I’m home, so I’ll have something to show you. Lucky you.” She joked.
She was rather amused by the ramblings of her best friend. It seemed like Charlie had no focus… or too much focus on too many things. However one wanted to view that. “I usually just use either soft ballet shoes or elastosplit shoes. But I know people who use only foot gloves so that their toes are supported but their heals are free.” Adelita suggested. “During my last recital, my teacher had most of us go barefoot because she didn’t want anyone to trip on anything or slide. I think that’s most common.” Practicing usually had Lita wearing elastosplit, but when she performed, she liked the firmness of her bare-feet rather than the sole of a shoe. Unless, of course, she was performing ballet. “I’ll have to learn how to do hip hop in sneakers. That just seems so constricting.” Adelita commented while she flipped through the music. She laughed at Charlie, “Now why would I want to silence you when you entertain me quite so well?” Lita teased.
"I have no idea. I am definitely not the person to ask about boys." Lita said. Charlie threw her a look that plaintively suggested there was nobody else she was going to talk to about boys besides her best friend. Her second best friend was Daniel himself, and Charlie could hardly talk to him about the problem... or could she? Maybe asking him hypothetcially would give her some vague answers to her musings. Then again, she couldn't act all that well and he might just see right through it. "I thought we were waiting to even discuss a new approach until after midterm? You know, if nothing comes of it?" Lita reminded her.
"Right," Charlie replied, vanquishing thoughts of her most recent idea. She would just have to wait until after midterm. Not a problem. Give her time to decide what she wanted, Daniel time to decide what he wanted - she thought he was making some progress on deciding what he wanted, so perhaps after midterm she would be able to get some answers. If she could wait that long. "Ooh, I fancy something upbeat," Charlie replied to her friend, and laughed when Lita asked if she looked like someone who listened to rap. No, no she didn't. "Yay, my own private hip hop show."
Concerning Charlie's rambled shoe questions, Lita replied, "I usually just use either soft ballet shoes or elastosplit shoes." If this wasn't a good excuse to buy new shoes then Charlie had never heard of one. "During my last recital, my teacher had most of us go barefoot because she didn’t want anyone to trip on anything or slide. I think that’s most common." Charlie looked dubiously at the floor. It was new now, but if a load of people came in here to dance it wouldn't look quite so clean and shiny within the next few weeks.
"Right, ballet it is," she said, taking out her soft split-soles and pulling them onto her feet, grinning at Lita's comment about being entertained but otherwise making no reply. With her shoes on, she took a swig of water, and stood back up again. "Okay, I'm ready," she informed Lita with a flourish. "Let's do some dancing!"
Lita was well aware that Charlie wasn’t going to discuss anything remotely important and private, but it didn’t make Lita’s statement any less true. She had the worst track records with guys. First having a small crush on Carlos because she had been young and student. Than having a crush on Jared because he was older and cute. Then having Carlos stalk her because she wouldn’t give him the time of day and that bothered him enough to attack her forcefully. And now her current feelings with Juri, whose was a good friend and as far as she was aware, in love with someone else.
Yes, a definite really horrible track record.
“Right, something upbeat.” Adelita flipped through the musi...il she found a pop song that would be easy to move to. Normally, she was used to doing contemporary to slower songs, emotional songs, etc. Something that was supposed to draw a person in and be heart-wrenching. When upbeat songs come on, Lita could feel more of the Spanish twang in her step rather than contemporary. More hip than legs. Sometime she didn’t even realize she was doing it until someone pointed it out to her. Oh well, she couldn’t really fight her genes. It was what it was.
“It’s not a show for you because you’ll be participating.” Lita informed with a smirk. Like she was going to do that by herself or with an audience. The idea of learning a new dance usually thrilled Lita, but the idea of learning hip hop terrified her. She didn’t know if she could train her body in that way in a short amount of time. Especially with only a couple of weeks of training during midterm with her teacher.
At Charlie’s queue, Lita turned the music on. “Okay, Charlie, let’s see what you have!”
