"Follow me," Professor Bulla said quite unnecessarily before he quickly led them through several winding corridors, up two flights of stairs, past his office door and halfway down another flight. He paused and turned face the students, then instead of making an announcement as he had expected to do he waited. It took a little while, but eventually all the stragglers caught up.
"If you would all move below me," Manfred instructed the first years, moving aside to let them past. Again he waited as this time the milled about on their way past, some of them taking far to long. He was never going to get the new chapter on basic cleaning charms finished if this didn't get done soon!
"Yes," he said, ushering the last student past. "Now remember, this is secret entrance to the Teppenpaw Commons - you must never reveal it to anyone who is not a fellow Teppenpaw. Watch carefully."
Feeling only mildly embarrassed, as he had done this many times in the past, and with only the mildest of mental cursing at the Irish and their love of dancing, Professor Bulla flawlessly performed ten specific steps, ending with a kick to the stair. "I always thought that this was more suited to the Pecari," he murmured as he led the way down the newly revealed torchlit circular stairwell and into the common room.
The fire was lit and flickering away merrily, the room a comfortable temperature and his escape hatch just over there.
"Well," he said, clapping his hands together once and taking the opportunity to observe the group again. He hoped they would do Teppenpaw proud. "Let me welcome you to Sonora Academy and more specifically to Teppenpaw house. You're dorms are just down those two corridors - boys on the right hand side, and girls on the left. If you have any questions you can knock on my door - it's just over there," he pointed it out and thanked the heavens that the founders had at least had the sense to make the teachers doors only open at their request. The potential trouble otherwise didn't bear thinking about.
"Was there anything you wanted to ask before I left?" he finished, a hopeful note in his voice. Maybe this lot would be ok on their own, unlike last years bunch who required dancing lessons for a month before they got the hang of opening the common room door.\r\n\r\n\r\n
Jake had followed their Head of House along with the rest of the first years. He had been confused just following through the many corridors and staircases. He had no idea how he was going to remember getting to the common room, not to mention the dance moves he witnessed Professor Bulla perform.
Thinking it over, Jake was almost certain he wouldn't remember any of it at all by morning. Raising his hand, he asked,
"Professor-er-that was nice dancing and all, but, seriously, how are we suppose to do that? I can't dance for the life of me, let alone everyday for the next 7 years to steps like that!" Jake gestured and animated his voice as he spoke. He knew people would probably laugh at what he was saying and the professor might even be a little tiffed because he was questioning the ways this school has always been. "Also, are there maps available? If not, you might as well say good-bye to me now because once I leave this room, you'll never find me. I'll be permanently lost within the walls of this school."
Jake shook his black head of hair in mild frustration and looked expectantly up at the Professor.\n\n
Tally looked hard at the professor waiting for his answer to that kids question. She too, wanted to have a map. She wasn't as worried about the dance steps, she had taken up dance as a child. It was the one 'girl' thing she ever did and it was at the request of Chrissy, who hadn't wanted to take the classes alone.
Now Tally sat and watched the other first years with interest. She didn't know any of them, which surprised her. She thought that some of her magical friends, other than Chrissy, would come to Sonora, but she supposed they went to schools closer to home.
Thoughts in her head returned to the boy and professor. She giggled silently as she thought of his name, Manfred. She found out from her father who had told her that her mother knew him or at least of him. Tally figured it was probably back when she went to Sonora, but she couldn't be sure. Then when they went book shopping, Tally happened across one of his books and ended up buying it. She read it cover to cover. Now, charms was her favorite subject. It interested her to know end.
Her father told her that Charms had been her mother's favorite subject as well. Tally smiled in that memory. She only wished she knew the woman she resembled so much.
Turning back to her Professor, she waited patiently for his reply.
OOC: I didn't want to actually give a story of how her mother might know Bulla, which is why I said 'or of him'. I know nothing about Bulla except the book. Anyway, I hope that's alright.\n\n

Looks like it's dance lessons... again

Manfred tried not to sigh, as he came to the conclusion that this year wasn't going to be the year that Teppenpaw took on an entire troup of professional dancers as its first years. It was through sheer force of will that he refrained from burying his head in his hands as he watched his chances for a few hours peaceful writing go up in smoke. They wanted maps?!!
"You'd be surprised, Mr Santoro, just how quickly those steps will become second nature," he addressed the boy who had spoken after a quick consultation with the list of names for those sorted into the house. Knowing it was inevitable, he made his next announcement to the entire group. "Dance lessons for the entrance will begin tomorrow afternoon; you will all be expected to attend at least the first session. I hope you will do better than last years group - it took an entire month for most of them to get the hang of it. In the meantime, if you can't make it into the commons, just knock on my main office door. You all passed it right before the last set of stairs. Otherwise, just wait for an older student to let you in."
"As for finding your way around, its fairly straightforward. It just seems complicated at first," Manfred knew this from personal experience. It was twenty-seven years since he had been a first year Teppenpaw (and he was proud to serve as Head of House for his old stamping grounds), but he could still vaguely recall the first few confusing weeks of not knowing where he was going. "You'll know the basic outline of the school like the back of your hand in no time."
That should settle things, he decided, satisfied. Perhaps he could even get on with his chapter now.
"Are there anymore questions?" he asked the group, as he prepared to head for his office. A frown flickered briefly over his face as his gaze passed one of the students. She looked familiar somehow... \r\n\r\n\r\n

Tally shivered slightly as her eyes locked with her professors. She saw something there, it was slight, but it was there. Her smiled slipped a little, but she quickly replaced it and looked away.
Tally wasn't used to being watched or looked at. In her muggle school she stayed invisible, except for the couple of boys that she had befriended as they had sat on either side or her seat. Teachers ignored. Well, most adults ignored her, except her dad and brother. And she was quite alright with that. So when someone did notice her, she somehow felt the entire spotlight glaring down on her and everyone expecting something miraculous to escape her lips.
Tally turned back to the professor. As much as she didn't want to talk to him because he intimidated her, she would still need to know or else be late for her first class. Slowly she raised her hand and asked,
"Professor, sir, what time will breakfast be in the morning? I don't want to be late or anything." Geesh, how lame was that? Now people will think her to be a teacher's pet, great. She thought with a roll of her eyes.\n\n
Dillon stood by as he watched his professor greet them. He stood in the back to keep invisible. Dillon was 5'7 with auburn hair and hazel eyes. He was tall for an eleven year old and so was his sister. Though he loved the idea that he would be tall, he still felt awkward sticking out above the rest.
This school was complicated. His sister and himself were the first magical beings in his family and so this whole world was complicated, strange, new, and most of all fascinating.
It fascinated him when he watched Bulla perform those dance moves and opened the door. Honestly, how did it know? He wondered what would have happened if he had messed up or been completely wrong.
Dillon turned as another first year boy asked about the dancing and about maps. Dillon agreed with him on both parts. Zoey is the graceful on of the two. Dillon would trip over his own feet if he wasn't careful.
Dance lessons? Okay, he supposed he could do with a lesson or two until he got a handle on the basics or he could just make friends with one of these girls who were sure to be great at it...
No maps? Well, that's it, I'll be lost forever, Dillon thought to himself with amusement. He turned his head again as a girl asked a question about breakfast. I simple question, but an important one. Dillon turned back to the professor and waited.\n\n
Still slighly unsettled by not being able to wrok out why this girl seemed somehow familiar, Manfred took a moment to hear her question.
"Huh... wha- oh. Breakfast. Breakfast is held between seven-thirty and nine. I don't advise staying late though, as being late for class doesn't reflect well on your house. Or you for that matter. Or me." He frowned for a moment then remembered that they hadn't really given him any cause to worry about them being tardy. "Still, I think that's everything you need to know for now. I hope you enjoy your time at Sonora, and I'll see you all tomorrow for the dance lesson."
He moved swiftly towards the door that went into his office and through it the moment it opened, closing it firmly behind him. On the noticeboard opposite, a parchment appeared advising all students that dance lessons would be starting the following afternoon and that points would be docked for anyone who didn't attend.\n\n
