Lets do some research! by Anna Clarissa Cooper-Flemming

In a burst of spontaneity, Anna Clarissa Cooper-Fleming had been inspired to try out for the Pecari Quidditch Team. Her roommate and co-conspirator Izzie had also tried out but other than that Anna Clarissa was pretty sure everyone else had been older. Or at the very least, taller. The first year was about the normal height for someone her age, but her pediatrician back home said that she would probably be tall like her mom as soon as she started getting growth spurts. Anna Clarissa wasn't entirely sure how she felt about the concept of being tall. It would probably be useful in situations like now though, she decided, as she looked up at the book she was trying to read.

The Quidditch roster had gone up and the hazel-eyed girl had been delighted to find out that both she and her roommate had been placed on the reserves, which meant that if any of the older players got hurt or sick and couldn't play in a game, she might be able to. But that was also mildly discomforting because Anna Clarissa, as such, had very little experience with the Quidditch-ing. She'd done some preliminary research and gone to flying lessons and things, and she'd bounced around stations at tryouts so she had a vague idea of what people did on the Quidditch field but -

Pitch, Quidditch Pitch. Right.

The curly-haired Pecari frowned up at the book, fisted hands on her hips. She had figured out that it was okay for her to not where her school uniform when she wasn't in class, which was good. She was currently wearing jeans and an emerald green shirt with quarter-length sleeves, wand stuck carelessly in her back pocket.

Hm. Wands.

Peering around carefully (she was still a little bit uncertain whether or not they were allowed to do magic outside of class), Anna Clarissa pulled her wand out of her pocket. She looked around again, then pointed it at the desired book.

Swish and flick "Wingardium leviosa!" she enunciated carefully, making sure the tip of her wand was trained on the book she wanted. Sure enough, the book floated slowly upwards. Anna Clarissa pulled the wand back and the book pried itself loose from the shelves - only to drop suddenly, directly on to somebody's foot.

Whoops.

"Uh, hi!" Anna Clarissa said, awkwardly looking down at her wand and half wondering if she should be stowing it guiltily in her pocket. "Um. Did you want to learn about Quidditch too?"

Careful there! by Barnaby Pye

After signing up for the Library Assistant position, Barnaby went off to find a peaceful area of the library to set his things down in and get to work. He knew that the Aladren common room was suited for studying what with its’ walls that were lined with books—his own dorm room had enough books to rival his room at home considering that he had bought duplicates of a good number of them to be shipped to Sonora that he might use his trunk as a collapsible bookshelf during the year. However, even though the Aladren common room was exclusive to only a select number of students and his dorm room even more so, but there was something comforting about being in a library that forced Barnaby to venture outside of his private sanctuaries.

He was walking down one of the aisles of books about Quidditch on his way to a corner that no one else seemed to have discovered yet—or at least that no one else went to when he was in the library when he saw one of his year-mates struggling to get a book down from an upper shelf. Out of the kindness of his heart (read: sarcasm), Barnaby approached her. Though he wasn’t overly tall for his age like Alfie had been, the book was still close enough to his arm’s reach that he was certain with a bit of tip-toeing he might be able to grab it. However, as he got closer, he saw the girl take out her wand and before he could step back, she whipped the book right off the shelf and right onto his foot. Barnaby’s body immediately tensed. The girl was chirping on about Merlin-knew what but what Barnaby had yet to hear come out of her mouth was an apology. He closed his eyes tightly and counted to five silently. It would not do to loose his cool at one of his classmates, even if it was a rather ditsy American girl who he was not sure was pureblood in the least.

“Excuse me?” He asked politely, making sure to keep his frustration from showing in his bright blue eyes. “I’m sorry, I didn’t quite catch what you were saying since a book just fell on my foot.” He arched a blonde eyebrow, in a manner that sort of appeared as though he were joking if he were conversing with someone who was confident in their friend making abilities but rather demeaning if it were an insecure person who liked to think people didn’t like them. It wasn’t that Barnaby didn’t like people, it was that Barnaby didn’t like stupid people or, at the very least, people who didn’t know they were stupid. Ditsy people like his Pecari year-mate fit into that category. Lucky for the Pecari girl blood didn’t matter as much as brains to Barnaby—unlucky for the Pecari girl, she didn’t seem to have an ounce of brain in her at all (at least from the five second interaction Barnaby had just had with her). However, Barnaby couldn’t decide who was worse—a ditsy muggleborn or a ditsy pureblood who more than likely had grown up a feeling of entitlement.

“Barnaby Pye, Aladren” he said, his English accent crisp as he held out his hand. “You’re in Pecari, right?” He was pretty sure he knew her name, being a person who was rather good with faces he had quite quickly learned all the names of the people in his class by the end of the second week, but letting her introduce herself seemed like the charitable thing to do in case she was the sort to not know names since she had already embarrassed herself once in front of him.
