Fixing friendships! [Tag:Danae] by Eavan Valentine

Eavan still had no idea what had happened. There had been no arguement, no falling out at all, just a silent drifting apart and suddenly she and danae were at opposite ends of the earth. She knew that the previous year had been busy: prefect duties, CATs, the show. Her time had been taken away from her. But this year, while still having her prefect duties, she had only her classes to take her time away from her friendships. Danae had been sorely neglected and she wanted to end it.

For the past few weeks she had seen her best friend in the library from time ti time, with her nose stuck in various books, so Eavan hoped to find her in a similar position today. She crept around the library for what seemed like ages with a unknown book in her hands waiting for Danae to show up. She was even wearing the butterfly clips Danae had gotten her a few years back. Finally, she did and suddenly felt a little nervous. What if Danae didn't want to be her friend anymore? She shook the thought from her head and walked steadily over to where Danae had sat down, taking the seat next to her.

"Hey! It's been a while," Eavan said sheepishly. "Are we still okay? I really still want to be your friend, but if you don't want to anymore, then that's okay." It really wasn't okay, but if that's how Danae felt, then she'd have to deal with it some way or another. Eavan hoped it didn't have to come to that, though.

The rubble needs cleared first. by Danae Dupree

After having talked to Josh, Danae had made a conscious decision to not look for Eavan anymore. If she didn’t want to hang out with her anymore, then that was Eavan’s decision and she wasn’t going to force it. She had been friendless when she had begun school as a first year and she would be perfectly fine if she left school the same way. At least, she tried to believe that. Telling herself that lie was the only way she could keep going without becoming hurt all over again when she thought of how Eavan had ditched her, but she supposed she should be used to it.

Distraction was another key feature to her plan to forget friendship and to do that, she threw herself into her studies. She wouldn’t be surprised if she had the best grades this term that she ever had in any term. With fewer classes and less friends, she had quite a bit of time on her hands for all of her assignments. She did most of them in her dorm except for when she absolutely had to go to the library, which she found herself now having to do. She had only gotten to avoid the library for about a week since she had decided to end her efforts to patch things up.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?), in the midst of all of this studying, Eavan had decided to join her at her table. She looked at Eavan with a blank expression, allowing her to say whatever it was that she wanted to say, which wasn’t much. Had their friendship meant so little to her that there could be so little effort put forth into even whether or not they were still friends? “No, we’re not okay,” Danae began in controlled voice. “You’re supposed to be my best friend, not just still want to be my friend if I want.”

She should have let it go there. She should have, but before she could stop, she added, “And it’s been more than a while. Does Matt have to wait this long or am I special?” Ouch. She turned her head away immediately shamed and fiddled with her ring so she wouldn’t have to look back over at Eavan. She might have been more horrible than Eavan in this friendship. Danae had wanted to hurt her the way Eavan had hurt her, but using her crush against her was just wrong. “I shouldn’t have said that, but you hurt me, so I don’t know.”

This may require some heavy machinery by Eavan

Eavan was startled to say the least at Danae's reaction. She stared, dumbfounded, at her best friend. "I-I-I..." she started softly, trying to find words to describe what she was feeling right then. It took her a second, but she finally figured out what to say.

"You ARE my BEST friend!" Eavan said, a little too loudly, eliciting a Shhh from somewhere nearby. "I don't know what happened," she said, softer. "But I want to fix it. And I don't know what Matt has to do with anything." She didn't. It was a sore subject. She liked Matt and she knew that Danae knew and was pretty sure both Josh and Matt knew. But as of yet, Matt hadn't showed any interest. He flirted, but not enough. Matt, as far as she knew, was the type of boy that would tell a girl if he liked her. It had been ages since they started being friends and besides the occasional flirtacious comments, there was nothing. Eavan was starting to give up hope and it had been fairly difficult to deal with alone.

"How did I hurt you?" she asked, trying to think of something. "Because we haven't been hanging out? Because if that was it, then it was just last year! It was so crazy with my other prefects going AWOL and the CATs and the Concert and everything." She paused for a second. "But that's no excuse!" she said too loudly once again. "I really do want to be your friend; your BEST friend. Just tell me what to do and I'll do it."

She sat silent again, biting her lower lip in concern and waiting for some instruction on how to make everything all right again. Everything was going to be all right again. She just knew it.
