Pretending to study (tag: Oliver) by Hannah Laurent

As agreed upon during Defense Against the Dark Arts, Hannah showed up on the correct afternoon after classes to meet Oliver for tutoring and studying. She picked a table towards the back since they would obviously be talking and she didn’t want to be a nuisance to anyone else. If they were, there was a chance that they would get kicked out of the library and then they would have accomplished nothing. If anything, she planned on at least accomplishing an understanding of the material for the Transfiguration test.

With a table picked, Hannah sat down and threw her bag onto the chair next to her. Figuring it best to be ready for when Oliver showed up so as not to waste his time, she pulled out her books, notebooks, and pens. Once she did so, she looked at the library entrance to see if Oliver had showed up yet. She wasn’t surprised that he hadn’t yet since she was actually quite a bit early. Shrugging slightly, she glanced at the pile of books. She supposed it would be best to get a start on her homework.

Choosing the Potions textbook, as that homework would probably be easiest, she opened it to where the assignment began and uncapped a pen. At the top of her page, she wrote out her name and other class information. After that, she attempted to read the material, but failed completely. Her mind kept wandering to the areas it had been going lately like why she got so nervous around certain people or why her appearance was suddenly so much more important when before she couldn’t care less.

Today was a prime example. Normally, Hannah would have just worn a pair of old jeans, a t-shirt, and either just brushed her hair or gone only as far as to put it up in a ponytail. Instead, while still casual, she had worn a pair of new jeans, a nice v-neck shirt with embroidery that she had gotten for Christmas, and had put on a bit of lip-gloss. She never really wore more than that even though she was allowed to, because she didn’t like the way it felt on her face. Makeup always seemed to have a heavy feel to it.

In her thoughts, Hannah tapped her pen against the table making a clicking sort of sound. She wondered if she had time to change, as she suddenly felt odd, like she was pretending to be something she wasn’t, even though, she knew that she was just being silly cause she was anxious. Pausing in her tapping to glance at her watch, she realized that someone else was there. Oh, well, so much for going to change. She looked up, a grin forming on her face. “Hi,” she said. “I hope you don’t mind that I got started.”

Study? Is that what we're doing? by Oliver Abbott

Despite his best efforts, Oliver arrived late to the library. He didn't want to seem to eager - either to study, which would be geeky, or to see Hannah, which would seem desperate. So after making sure he looked presentable, Oliver packed his bag, ensuring he had his wand and one or two useful books, so he could at least pretend to be working. He then proceeded to take a gentle walk through the gardens, partly to pass the time, and partly to help calm his nerves. He had pretty much admitted that Hannah made him nervous, but it was in a good way; a really good way. It made Oliver grin like an idiot when he thought about her sometimes. He just couldn't believe that Hannah still wanted to hang out with him. Oliver was about as popular as ... something that was very unpopular. Plus he wore geeky glasses and had to wear long sleeves and a sunhat in the sun. He was good enough in classes to be thought of as a nerd, but not good enough to be the cool sort of genius. Plus a lot of his clothes were still Julian's hand-me-downs (though not as many as it previous stages of his life) and his family were magic-hating Muggle-wannabes. All in all, he didn't have a great deal to recommend himself, particularly to a girl like Hannah.

But still, here he was, meeting her in the library for some sort of tutoring, or study session, or whatever. Oliver didn't really care if they got any work done: any time with hannah was good time. And there she was, beautiful as ever, and not really concentrating as Oliver joined her at the table. She looked up an d saw him soon enough though, and she smiled. That was just the best thing. Grinning in return, Oliver dropped down into the seat next to her. "Hi," he replied, self-consciously shaking his hair back from his face. "Sorry I'm late. I didn't mean to keep you waiting."
